From W211 forum - E 270CDi (2004) fuel consumption
******
People
Just had a 2nd service at 22k miles - car running lots smoother so happy.
BUT I seem to have lost 15-20% of my fuel economy overnight.
Used to get 40mpg now down to 33mpg!
Has anyone else experienced this / can anyone explain it?
Spoken to my dealer and they are suggesting down to UK temperatures (not freezing yet) falling in the winter - sounds like BS to me!
Could I have had a tank of "bad" fuel?
Help!

How are you measuring?
If you are using your trip computer, could be mileage has not changed, it will need time (and highway driving) to average back out to a higher figure provided your habits/pattern of use holds constant.

Winter driving can decrease your fuel economy by several L/100km.
As well, I would suggest servicing your car more often than every 11,000miles.
I would suggest doing it more like every 6~8,000 miles. It is cheap insurance against anything going wrong and if it helps the car run smoother, than what is the extra money.
Just have them change the oil and do the complete service every other time.

Did a back to back with a colleague's car last week and where I was getting 34mpg he was up at 41mpg. Same day, weather, driving conditions.....
This is really wierd as before the service I was also at 40+mpg.
Could it be a fuel leak / engine problem / transmission issue?
Anyone else had anything like this?
Definately not a trip computer issue as only getting 420m on a full tank where used to be 500m+
