I am using Kleeman KD box on my R320 CDI...It's OK but it was much better on my E320 CDI...

I think Brabus D6 box is good but very expensive (3x Kleeman). In my opinion, whetever you buy (except Brabus) is more/less same (~25 HP + 70 NM torque)

I am selling my car and I am going probably go with Brabus or ECU programming for next car ...If you are interested in for buying Kleeman box, let me know ...

Power boxes are very poor solutions. All they do is crank up the fuel rail pressure and injector duration, bad for the engine and the very expensive fuel system parts.

By far the best option is to reprogram the ECU. That way the computer actually has control and accurate feedback over what the engine is doing.

I read the same elsewhere. What reputable company would you recommend? Tikkui suggested that reprogramming the ECU can also electronically delete the EGR function without actually doing anything to the hardware (no block off plates, no removal of EGR). At least that is my reading of his explanation.

This unit is the same as the Kleemann, I have them both and they don't increase fuel rail pressure.

Then all they can do is crank up duration.

I have used Upsolute for 7 years in a 2003 VW TDI and 140,000 miles never gave me a problem.
So this weekend my 06 CDI is getting the ECU remapped.

I had my ECU for my Land Rover remapped by a company in the UK.

So I'm for remapping the ECU not changing the input so the ECU adjust to correct
what it thinks is going on,
the ECU can adjust everything then.

Are you located in the USA or UK? If the former where did you go for the ECU re-mapping and what is the cost?

Thats only half the truth*g*

I am absolutely no fan of those boxes and would prefer an ecu tuning in any case, but atleast the boxes from Carlsson do a little more.

They also fool the ambient pressure sensor to raise boost, to keep lambda at an acceptable level.

In generell those higher priced boxes have a little more insider than just an resistor to fool the fuel temperature sensor, most of them have some kind of microprocessor in them to manipulate duration.
Carlsson also clains that their box can also advance SOI, unless I dont understand how an additional box which needs initial injection signal from ecu could do this....

I dont know how those other boxes from kleeman or brabus work, nontheless I would never buy either one of them...

I live in US had my VW TDI re-mapped by Upsolute $350 as I recall USD that was back in 2004.
Today I had my 2006 E320 CDI re-mapped by Upsolute the cost
was $425 USD.
My Land Rover ECU was sent to R.P.I. in the UK to have them give
the ECU to Mark Adams at Tornado to re-map it, that was about
$1744 USD.
$1385 was just for the re-mapping the rest was import tax, shipping
HomeLand Security Bureau of Customs & Border got their cut too.

www.upsolute.com is in Austria they have dealers world wide.

$1385 for an ECU remap? Did they give you a brick of coke with it?

Lol, you're funny Forced *g*

AFAIK upsolute is more an buy / resell type of chiptuning company, I dont know if or which ecu's they are realy specialized on and which of them they realy program theirself.

Anyway, if you see a company offering chiptuning for all carsten from A-Z you should realize that it is nearby impossible to write all of those mappings by yourself, if done properly....

So in fact there are 2 possibilitys:

They write everything by themself, and to achieve this, only the absolute neccesary changes are done (maybe thats why they are called upsolute *g) or

They work together with other companys to inquire software they not program by themselfs...

Who knows....

Thanks for the quick reply. I e mail the local Upsolute guy and his price is similar to yours. The re-mapped power claims are very moderate so he is honest.

I have found Upsolute to be what the OEM settings should have been from
the start.
Have a Good Day.
