Shipping Car from Warm to Cold Climate- Fuel ?

I bought a used CDI & am having it shipped from Austin, TX to Chicago. It has about 1/4 tank fuel. I'm concerning about the fuel gelling when it gets here b/c the high temp will be about 19, dropping into single digits at nite.

Question: should it be OK to just fill the tank right away here in Chicago, or would it be better to have most of the existing tank drained & then fill it with the "winter blend" diesel here in Chicago? the car will be garaged, but not that much warmer in my garage versus outside.

thanks

u can use 10-20% reg gas to dilute, or kerosene.
but there will be many experts here to say u need some Elixir from the high rabbi from tumbuktu kosher it.

or fill up with reg diesel when it arrives.

Just fill it when it gets there and add a anti-gell before filling.
We still get winter fuel here in Texas too in Dallas its 19 now and going to be 10 tonight in Austin its going to be 19 tonight.

If you are shipping that R320 CDI in your profile, use ULSD from a reputable station and drive on. DO NOT PUT ANY GASOLINE IN IT as someone mentioned earlier. I have seen 2 catch fire that way!!

On really cold times, I would say use a ULSD anti gel additive of your choosing. I use Power Service Cetane Booster year round and never had an issue for 2.5 years now.

Also bring a snow blower. You will really need it today.

Change your wiper fluids to cold temp ones too, I bought a car from Cali to Canada in winter, the washer fluid froze, I park outside, I have to wait til spring for it to unfreeze... lol

Ship it enclosed? Otherwise, just get some gas line antifreeze. I doubt the whole tank will freeze tbh.

thanks guys- update & potential new issue

thanks for all the replies, it was a bit warmer than expected when car arrived & I immediately filled the tank- and haven't had any issues with the car starting/running & we've had single digit temps all week. there was another post about a benz approved anti-gel but it's $18 a bottle (per tank). there's no way I'm going to spend that much per tank. since benz says no other fuel additives are allowed for the CDI, I will just run it with straight diesel from the pump.

Was able to siphon out some of the wiper fluid, but the rest had turned into an ice/slush clinging to the side of the reservior that couldn;t be removed. dang my previous benz E320 had a heated washer compartment but not the R which I find emblematic of the R in general! I poured it full of cold temp washer fluid and once the temps got warmer it worked fine. the rear still does not work so I'll have to track down the rear reservoir & change it.

my biggest surprise was excessive front road noise above 20 mph. at first I thought it was the tires but according to tire shop, it's probably a bad bearing or bad front differential! i'm bringing it in to the stealer next week for a diagnosis- thankfully the car is still under factory warranty. hopefully they won;t try to tell me the noise is normal- car has only 30K on the clock. i'll post if anything comes of it.
