Can I avoid AM (HD) radio?

I live in the foothills where we get weak AM reception. When I try to listen to some of my favorite AM stations while driving they come up AM (HD) and the volume varies erratically. On non HD Am stations the volume is stable, and of course FM and Satellite are both good.

I've read through the owners manual but can't find anything that addresses the HD reception and I would very much like to eliminate it. Does anyone know if that can be done ?

Try pushing the Service ("i") button in your car and ask them....
They are helpful on some things....

To my knowledge, if a vehicle is equipped with HD Radio, there is no way to turn it off. I do not know why anyone would turn it off. For AM, HD provides a crystal clear, FM quality sound with no static, or other RF noises. The HD signal will only lock-in if the signal is strong enough. I think the poster has things backwards. The bad sound he is hearing is when the HD loses the signal and resorts to the analog signal. This can be annoying in the fringe areas of a station, or, in cities with lots of structural interference.
