Air filters on E350 Bluetec
I am trying to replace the air filter on my '11 E Bluetec.
I am struggling... How much needs to be disassembled before one can access the air boxes?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

There are two star bolts that holds each airbox in place (the rear ones are captive). Loosen the hose clamps that connects the airboxes to the y-pipe above. Detach the air intake pipe that draws air from the front of the car to the airboxes below (this can be tricky). The right airbox has a sensor, so detach the wire harness. Pull back on the airbox to detach it from the y-pipe (you will have to pull back the rubber flaps of the y-pipe). Then pull up on the airbox to detach it from its grommets.

Great advice guys! It took less than 30 minutes!
Very dirty filters. Bugs, sand and a warning sticker....
Not original filters, but closed to.
THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE!

The same as oil.
I completely understand MB concept, car designed for reach people who wants spend minimum time at service and usually they don't keep cars for a long time.
So maintenance schedule is the minimum to keep the car running up to the warranty limits.
I do everything twice often, oil changes every 5K in the summer every 3.5K, air filters 20K, fuel filter every 30K.
Good luck!

If they build cars with quick and simple access to all those components, their service departments will struggle.
My wife drives Murano 15, it takes 10 mins to change air filter no tools, just open two clips.

Mercedes are particularly bad when it comes to DIY air filter replacement. For example, to change the air filter on a E250, you need to partially remove the ECU.
