All BS, if anyone was worried about NOx and all the other gases then all jet engines would be banned, they are the worse contributors.

NYT on the diesel non-recall by MB:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/18/b...emissions.html

There's also a later article about a similar decision by Audi.

The NYT article provides a little more detail than other reports that people have posted:

"A software update, which Daimler said would take about an hour, will cause the emissions controls to operate under a broader set of conditions. Previously, the pollution equipment was programmed to operate at maximum effectiveness only under a narrow range of temperatures. That range will be expanded."

But it's still not clear what the update will actually do. If the focus is on NO2, as some reports have suggested, that is dealt with via the Bluetec system in recent MB diesels. Are they just changing how that operates? Are the cars going to use more Adblue? I wasn't aware that the Bluetec system was temperature related.

I hope they're not talking about the DPF, as I wouldn't want active regeneration to kick on any sooner than really necessary.

If that Forbes report is accurate and balanced, this is going to get ugly.

It implies that my hunch was correct - that this update will mean that those who get it will use more of the adblue liquid and will need to top it up more often. I bet the tank isn't getting any bigger.
