2011 W212 E250 Diesel - Boost Pressure sensor & manifold actuating flap
 

Hi All

UK member here with a 2011 W212 saloon/sedan E250 Diesel, full Mercedes history so serviced as per schedule etc.
While driving home I noticed that my engine was revving much higher then usual before upshifting, it was revving to 2.5k or a bit higher before shifting in eco mode, it was like this all the way home, about 40min journey.

The next day the EML light also came on, called Mobilo who found 2 faults logged:
1) P023714 - the boost pressure sensor has a short circuit to ground - this is what had triggered the EML.
2) "mil off. manifold flap dtcs also present" - it was relating to manifold actuating flap, he said this one may be being caused by the faulty sensor above however so he said first point of call was to replace the sensor.

He replaced the boost pressure sensor (5 min job) and just took 1 test drive and left, when I then drove the car the EML light was back, took it into a independent specialist with STAR and they found the same faults logged.

Indy said it sounds like they replaced the wrong boost pressure sensor, the tech had replaced a sensor in the middle top of the engine bay which was easily accessible, apparently theres another one towards the lower right of the car that needs replacing, when I spoke to another Mercedes tech however he advised theres only one in the car..

Any ideas on how many boost pressure sensors this car has? indy 2 want to replace the 2nd one, if that still doesn't fix then they've advised a new manifold which is very expensive.

I can provide part numbers of the old and new sensor if that helps as I kept the old part and the new box, the part numbers are diff between old/new.

Both sensors are very cheap per my standards, so I would not hesitate to replace them both.

Ah thank you so much, at work now but will cross ref the part numbers when I get home and see what has been replaced, he was only there 5 min so I reckon he's replaced the wrong one..

Are there any free working links out there anymore for EPC? had a Google and couldn't find any so am guessing not.

So looks like they removed sensor 006-153-97-28 (looked at my old part) and replaced with 010-153-72-28

I assume they actually needed to replace another sensor (010 one located somewhere else in the car) but have instead replaced the 006 with the 010 one :(

MB is constantly updating parts and I have seen some where in 4 years the part was updated 6 times, so as long as it is 1 of those numbers, they will work.
MB USA was providing free EPC access to US residents, but couple years ago they start asking for $80 annually.
Still lot of part sellers like Husker I used above have EPC .

I think you are getting the run around from a lawn mower salesman---If the indy used Star he would know exactly what sensor or sensors was faulty and location because Star would tell him so there is no guess work------go back and simply ask him to give you a copy of the short test and then you will have your answer.

Thank you all, especially the 2 EPC links, that has allowed me to understand what has gone wrong, the dealer parts dept confirmed those 2 parts are not interchangeable, the Mobilo guy has replaced my working 006 sensor with the incorrect 010 sensor, hopefully no damage done? Getting my decent indy to resolve now and its booked in.

Thanks again for the info i've received on here, was key in understanding what has gone wrong, lets see what the indy says, hopefully just the sensor replacement will resolve and clear the manifold fault too and no need for new manifold.
