My turn to B***h about MBUSA

Have been driving MB for over 20 years and treated my whole family to the brand.
We had extreme good luck to our original 1998 ML320 who spending 13years/130k miles with the family needed only about $300 for failed parts (MAF and some bushings).
"Importing" diesel MB to California - I actually was making money driving them since several of them sold after 2-3 years of use for more than I paid for it + air fares.
So now, after decades of good luck, come bad luck, or is it all bad luck.
Over a year ago I drove via water puddle with 2008 E320 Bluetec. Blow the engine and had to import rebuild from UK. The rebuild is not as good as original engine was at 180k, but it runs... well... turn that old gasket between oil filter assemblies gave up. EPC on US sites is not even showing it, but being international, I found part number. No USA MB dealer recognize the part number as it is not sold separately. So to get $4 gasket, I have to buy $150 assembly. Tuff luck? Don't think so - I always had good luck with ATV (observe drying before torquing) so gave it a try. .
But wait, that was easy, when on my 2014 E250 Bluetec I need DPF filter. $3500 for rebuild at local dealer, who could not get it, or $2500 at Husker dealer, who took the order couple weeks ago giving me note about 2 months wait time. WHAT? The car was on the rack waiting.
So today I call Husker for update and delivery date changed to October/November. I placed order in May, so MBUSA makes me keeping the car on the rack for 1/2 year waiting for filter? DPF is consider wearable with 90k miles intervals.
My remote family drives Toyotas for decades with much better luck. My friend is driving 2nd Honda in his life, where the old one did not pass smog at 360k miles and the "new one" has over 300k already.
So as much as I am MB guy, I am thinking about becoming convert.

Is this what you're after?
Look at this on eBay
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F112 080521632

do you want me to check if anyone(mb dealer) in Canada has it?

Just got a reply from mb dealer in regards to the dpf filter:
Unfortunately I do not have any of those parts available in Canada right now. We would be looking at a similar wait time, if not longer.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen/ Kind regards

that's crazy! And the link I provided is an Ebay search that shows a number of these filters available from Germany and UK.

Can you give me your VIN for w211 and w212? That gasket is here in Canada but may be updated as per my parts guy.maybe dpf will come up too. They can't search if they don't have the vin...

Still grinding how MB can ignore its customers.

Ok. No mb dealer has it in all of Canada. My dealer ordered one not too long from California(not sure if it was mb dealer or aftermaket). That apparently was the last one. Nuts!!! And when they become available, USA will get them first.
As far as the gasket for your w211, they said they have it but when I asked for the price it turns out that that part number is for entire filter housing. The gasket in between is not available in Canadian mb dealers.
sorry bud.

I used silicone in place of gasket and after 50 miles it holds, so at least W211 is back on the road.
Now I tried DPF cleaner and DPF purge to no effect and I did not take spending $2500 on filter easy.:
Thanks for your time.

I think we’re all in the same boat Kajtek. Mine’s still in the shop after 9 weeks waiting for intake manifolds. Im just getting the impression that
A, Mercedes just aren’t built to last anymore and
B. MBUSA just really doesn’t care about us after the warranty is up.

My bluetec will be my last benz too

I can partially agree with A as I don't expect high-tech engine with 50 sensors to provide the same reliability what low-power block with 3 sensors, but B is spot on.
The only question is - would car under warranty get those parts faster?

Yes, I think that the parts would definitely be faster. MBUSA knows that if the car is under warranty and it’s out of service for as long as yours would be they would be forced to buy it back under the lemon laws.

Good point about the lemon law, however I am confident that Husker recheck all the possibilities how to get DPF. when my local (Henderson) dealer "Can't get it".
So at some point the car will have to be junked, when you can't buy crucial part?
Really weird.

When you can’t get a part at the dealer (with their inflated prices) it’s time to switch brands!

Just wondering if there any other brand do care about owners with past warranty?
To me they all pretty much the same.

MB still sells parts for their 30-years old models.
Just not for 3-years old.

Interesting reading

Auto manufacturers are required by US Federal Law to have parts available for any models they sold for the period of 10 years.

https://skeptics.stackexchange.com/q...arts-for-a-set

Not sure if there is any availability limits, if there is a law how soon they should deliver a part.

They seem to ignore the orphaned Bluetec owners though

I had my DPF serviced by ultrasonic shop.
The DPF is in too bad shape and did not pass the inspection after. I installed it back as I need to move the car around, but even with that partial cleaning, the CEL comes on 1/4 mile drive and engine is limited to 2700 rpm.
Nice the Boulder City, NV shop did not charge me anything and they pick up and delivered at my home.
EDIT. I called the East Coast shop linked.
They do cleaning if your filter is not too bad and they sell aftermarket DPF.
At the time they have 2 DPF models for Sprinters but nothing for sedans.

Nope,
My 250BT seem to have very rare DPF. The original number would indicate it was grandfathered from older models, but even having 2 part numbers, none of them is easy available.
To add to mystery, the MI shows DPF replaced in the past with new part number, when the actual DPF has the old number.
I wonder if PO was scammed on the replacement.

Just had a similar failure on my OM642 powered work Sprinter. $17,500 is quote from dealer, effective total loss. If I ever get another OM642 powered car, it comes apart and gets put back together right on day 1 along with programming and deleting ALL the BS. My OM648 w211 is still rocking on down the road as my daily (same basic mods as described above) and turns 213,000 miles on this tank of fuel. OM642 has so much potential but as delivered it is indeed a disaster.

Curious, how many miles on it when it blew whatever it blew (no way a DPF runs $17k? More city than highway or 50/50? Oil changes how often? Bought new?
What's your sign and your favorite colour? *grin*

Bought new in 2012 for work vehicle, failure at 143k miles, DPF/EGR/injectand glowplugs along with Nox sensors and SCR cat were all replaced under warranty before 90k miles. White, tall cargo type. One of my coworkers botched an oil change, o-ring blew on filter...motor seized
