Smoke at High RPM's
So, im leaning towards injectors or turbo.
I have white smoke (smells oily), quite a bit of it, but only under 2 conditions. Costing down hill at 3000 or higher, or if I downshift and hold a higher RPM (3000ish) under little or no load.
The other issue related or not is oil consumption. a quart per 500 or so miles.
175k mi, power seems fine.

Im leaningtowards either compressor or exducer shaft seal on turbocharger. Honestly not a hard fix. 222k miles on my stocks but I do usiually drive 38-45 miles per motor start on highway.

1922 Ford Model T / no OBD
Would be nice to know what engine we are talking about?
As much as I am staying away from "miracle in the bottle" lately used BG 245 diesel system cleaner and it did smooth idle on my OM 642 engine. I did not notice smoke before and after but evidently the cleaner did clean injectors.

I assume he has a 642 based on ML in his mini bio? If compressor seal is **** removing hose from front of turbo will make that obvious as well as oil all in intercooler....if hot side, inspection of exhaust side of turbo required. Does it smoke at once on cold start?

Yea, om642.
no smoke on start up.
oil on intake side, but it's not possible to tell if more than normal as it's always been wet. Catch can also installed, no oil in catch can.

Front compressor seal in turbo, and check bearing play while there. I may be way off but guessing small leak from compressor side, puts plenty of oil in charge cooler and fanifold, under power (rpm/boost) pushes that oil into intake manifold and air entry ports in head, that extra engine oil is then burned off very inefficiently resulting in white smoke. The other far less likely options are blown piston/ring or valve stem seals on exhaust side pushing oil like crazy because seals are done. Check your turbo, it’s not a hard job, see where oil is coming from.

Similar symptoms on mine e270 cdi (OM647 engine). consumes 1 litre of oil after every 3000 km. oil can be seen on intercooler seals just under the turbo and on intake side as well.
