Yeah, I had my 320 Bluetec dying in the middle of freeway 300 miles from home and even without family to worry about - it was stressful.
Those engines are definitely not a good choice if you don't DIY.
In my case it turned that dealer servicing the car for PO cut the corners on the repair and instead gaining access to fuel line clip - they just bend it and left it that way.
The bend clip hold for +- 1000 miles, but everything has its limit.
So I had some luck finding a piece of wire on the shoulder and with only couple of very basic tools I fixed it to drive home.
Coming to your issue- bad GP can't kill the engine and can only make harder start, so we are missing proper troubleshooting here.
Can you still try to crank it and monitor fuel rail pressure to start?
