Odd Sound from E320 CDI
 

Hi everyone, I have a 2005 E320 CDI. It runs great, no engine codes or anything, but I do have an odd sound coming from somewhere around the front of the motor. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

That is the CP3 HPP: a gear driven high pressure fuel pump. Thank you for this clip for I have been waiting for a response myself which nobody was able to provide. This is my HPP video: . Still not sure if mine is on it's way out but hopefully someone else can chime in.

That's what I was afraid of, but I'm not surprised as that's exactly where the sound seems to be coming from. Those things are obscenely expensive though. Everything is running just fine though so I guess I'll just hope that it keeps running. I appreciate the reply, let me know if you find out anything on yours!

I have this posted on the other forum and no replies whatsoever. Check out fleabay for reconditioned ones from Germany. Under $400US but you have to ship your core. Do you have access to any tool to run active test on HPP? I use Foxwell NT520 to run the HPP active test and the car runs really rough and then dies at the end. Not sure at all what this means which is why I have been investigating a Xentry system.

No I don't have access to anything at the moment, though I'd like to. Like I said the car runs perfectly and I'm not getting any codes or anything. I would imagine that if the pump was failing I'd be getting low fuel pressure warning or something. I recently changed some fuel lines and I got a low rail pressure code for a little while afterward but I cleared it and it didn't come back (I'm sure it was an air bubble in the line). Anyway, I'm probably just going to let it ride until it starts running rough or throwing codes.

Those pumps outlast the engine for most of the owners, so you'd have to have really bad luck having 1 fail.
$7 Bluetooth adapter will read rail pressure on your android.

I do have Torque Pro and pressures are good. HIGHLY recommend.

I'll give that a try, what SHOULD the rail pressure be?

I can send you a few logs in excel but stock max rail pressure is 1600 bar or ~23200 psi. The pressure increases (from 0.4 bar @ idle) with load/boost/rpm.

Idle is about 5000 psi and should build it in a second.
