Stuck in Sport Mode

Hi all,

I just purchased a 2012 E550 a207 black with red leather. Way more powerful than my CLK550 convertible, and I love it, but the sport mode is a little bumpy on some of the roads I have to drive on and I cannot seem to disable it. I'm referring to the sport mode available with the dynamic handling/suspension option, not the transmission setting. The red LED for sport mode is always on and when I press the button on the dash nothing happens. Tried switching the car off/on, stationary, driving, but I cant seem to disable sport mode. I'm taking it to the shop for them to check but thought I'd ask here in case anyone knows of this issue.

Cheers

Try disconnecting the battery for a couple minutes and let the entire system reboot.

I fail to see what the problem is with being stuck in sport mode. lol

I'm with previous poster. Battery disconnect and if not a trip to the dealership might be in line.

its either 1 of 2 things.

first one would be battery had died or weak and it is charging the battery until its stable. the car will be stuck in sports mode usually if the battery had died for awhile and has been recently jump started.

second one would be after market shocks are installed which would cause the oem shocks to be disconnected causing the car to be in sport mode all the time. or one of the shock are disconnected. open the hood and look at the shock mounts and see if everything is plugged in.

GO into the command engineering menu and do a system reset!!! You can also check for error codes to see if you have a real issue..........buttons tel.off plus #, plus 1 all pressed together with the key in position 2 (engine still off).
You can do a system rest!!!
You can also do a number of checks here, then once in this menu do buttons tel.off, plus #, plus 4 hold all together till the engineering menu comes up !!!!!!
Do not change any setting unless you know what your doing!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies.

Checked for after-market shocks and the ones installed are black and look stock
Checked that wires were plugged into the top of the shocks - they are
Disconnected the battery - no change :(
Checked the Command system and the only error is lots of "FBAR not connected" logs which is apparently something to do with the DVD system

Taking it to the dealer tomorrow

I would have guessed aftermarket suspension being the culprit as well. Good luck.

Did you ever get this resolved at the dealer?

Resolved at the dealer. It was related to a faulty shock so they replaced both front shocks :)

Sigh... My coupe recently started doing this too, it's now stuck in Sport mode. I guess first thing I'll have checked out are the front shocks.

EDIT: SOLVED!

What did you do to solve it?

djmallya 01-26-2018 09:34 AM

Mine comes on when I first start the car, but will stay off if I turn it off and restart.

djmallya 02-10-2018 11:23 AM

Mine is now stuck permanently, does anyone have a solution to this?

Hello people,

My W204 350 cdi has developed a similar problem with the sports button coming on whilst driving and me only being able to turn it off when the engine is off.

How did any of you solve the problem??

Thanks

How did you solve it

I thought the issue was front shocks?

azuris 07-09-2019 02:28 PM

Position sensor

Mine was doing the same thing. There are sensors at each wheel that mesure the movement of the suspension. They have a plastic arm that snaps to a bracket with a metal ball. The little metal ball was rusted on my Canadian car and it whore out the inside of the plastic arm. It would fall off and since the computer can no longer mesure the movement at the wheel, it goes to sport mode the second you start to move the car. I lubricated all 4 little joints and used Teflon tape to compensate for the loose at my left front wheel. No issues since over a year of driving. I recommend that spray lube be used once a year so the joints do not rust and start to grind themselves.

Do you have any pictures of this part so I can know what I'm looking for? Thanks!

Same on my side (C207 E550):

I have a feeling it's because of my weak battery but I will keep you'll posted.

PC69 09-24-2019 01:43 PM

I had the same problem last year and it was caused by a defective level sensor on the suspension.

WIN ER 09-24-2019 01:49 PM

Seems to be a battery in my case: no issues today and it was fine on my way home yesterday. Just in case I checked the wires on the sensors, everything is good. Thanks for heads up!
P.S. shopping for a new battery :)

vegeftw 11-23-2019 04:49 PM

Stop changing shocks lol. The fault is lvl sensor P/N A204 901 11 00.
Check the integrity of the sensor and grease it.

I am not finding that part number. I have a 2013 E550 Coupe stuck in sport mode. The battery is topped off. The scanner shows low voltage to the left rear lateral acceleration sensor, which I have replaced. Yet after replacement, the car still goes into sport mode for periods of time.

Part # 2049011100 is not applicable to your vehicle with vehicle dynamics (code 483). Are you using MB Xentry (diagnostics) could be simple CU (passenger foot well) software upgrade or reset if not using Xentry visually check all acceleration sensors (may be 2 in front, 1 rear depending on production date) and struts. If need be front strut left 2073231300, right 2073231400; rear 2073204330, 2073204430.
