New Tires for 2012 e350 Cabriolet
 

I'm at 40k miles. My tires (Michelin Primacy MXM4s) were quoted at my B Service at @$1350 for all four tires. I can get them at www.discounttire.com for about $400 cheaper. Question is...is this a "problem" with the TPMS system? Does this cause problems down the road with the dealership if THEY don't do the tire install? Just wondering what kind of games I can expect...they have been "nagging" me about "recommended service" that I chose not to undertake on these tires. BTW, I THINK these tires are 50k guaranteed, anyway, and as I said, I'm only at 40k. Just wanting to find out what you all have experienced.

Oh, one other thing...for ride, handling, etc...are the Michelin Primacy MXM4s really still the best tire, or is there something else? My Buick I just traded in, had Yokohama's that were really nice.

Replacing the tires at a non-MB dealer will have no effect on the TPMS sensors in the wheels (assuming you are keeping the same wheels). I replaced my MB OEM All-Season Tires with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Ultra High Performance All-Season and love them.

ffr has provided some excellent information regarding all-season tire options. It is worth noting that the information provided is for ultra high performance tires while the OEM MXM4 is considered a touring tire. The ride on the UHP tires might be rougher and/or noisier than you are accustomed to.

The UHP tires are great for speed and handling but the touring might be the better choice if your goal is ride quality, price and overall acceptable performance on a broader range of measures.

+1 Agreed - We would need to better understand what you're looking to do to help guide your decisions. I went with separate wheels & tires for summer and kept the stock wheels and all season tires for winter driving. I just put the summer set on a couple of weeks ago, these cars handle SOOOOO much better with high performance summer tires. I went with Bridgestone Potenza RE-760 Sports which are Ultra Performance Summer tires, love them so far.

On my '11 E550 couple I had my local Wheel Works replace row OEM Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season M&S with Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Positions (235/40 & 255/35) Load Range “XL” and UTQG “280 AA A”) for $807.85 mounted/ balanced. Has an issue with the TPMS sensor after and the dealer had no problem replacing it.

I won't be putting a lot miles on the car nor go to the mountains in the winter (got a Forester for that) so the tires will date out long before they wear out. I wanted an ultra high performance tire for fair weather driving.

Great food for thought folks. Since it's just the 3.5 V6, I'm looking more for ride comfort and mileage...so UHP probably isn't where Im headed.
