Talking European Maps for an American E400 Coupe

Hello, I am buying a E400 Coupe and I am planing to take the car to Spain, where I am from, when my work in the US is done.

Does anyone know if I will be able to use the navigation system in europe if I update the maps to a European version once I am there? Will the traffic signal recognition system work there?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you will first have to go to a dealer who will change the authorized region(regio) then pay for the install of the applicable nav software-----discount the car say 1000 bucks and you will be ahead of the game-------you will have bigger issues with emissions standards---so you better know what you are doing!!

The car is built in Europe and is the same engine than the Spanish E class... the emissions should be the same... righ?🤷🏻*♂️ 186g/km

loading the maps won’t be enough then?

I bought a BMW335i 10 years ago in the US and I had no problems at all with emissions, because the engine is just like the European ones, the cars are built in Germany. Same thing happened with my colleague, who bought a US Toyota Venza and he only had to load the maps.

This year, a friend brought a Volvo XC90 from Spain to the US, and he downloaded and installed the maps in the dealer for free. No other changes needed to be made.

Neither MB USA nor MB. Spain or Germany give me any information. They just say that the car shouldn’t be exported. I have contact a company that import US cars in Spain and they can do whatever changes need to be done for under $2,000 but I am asking here to see if anyone has experience in what I’m trying to do... The “wada yoke” is based on your knowledge? Or you just like to write without contributing positivevly to the forum?

Don't know if this helps but I know individuals who have opted for European delivery of their MB. They use European maps while in Europe and have the dealer load the US version when delivered in the states. Haven't had personal experience. You may want to check with your dealer. Good luck with the process.
