Display text messages on Command screen?

I have a 2012 A207 and an iPhone 8 with up to date OS.
Is anyone able to have text messages display?
On the menu for me, “text message” is grayed out.
In my internet searches, I understand the phone needs to have MAP (Message Access Protocol) enabled.
From what I read, iPhones after 4 do have this.

Thanks

My 2017 (E400) displays text messages-- and it will read them aloud. My phone is an iPhone 6S, and is connected only by bluetooth.

My only problem is that other than the small envelope icon that appears, there is no real, attention-getting notification that a text has been received. It would be good if the voice system could say "Text Message Received", or something like that. If I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket or I see the icon, I push the Favorites Button ( * ) and select NEW Message.

In your iPhone, at Settings > Bluetooth > My Devices: [your car], tap the "i" (information) icon; is the Show Notifications switch on, or off? If off, turn it on.

My car plays an audible alert (a beep/ding-type sound) when a text message is received, and the envelope icon is displayed at the top of the COMAND screen (unless the navigation map is currently displayed in full-screen, because then there's no toolbar at the top of the screen). I can then read the message or have COMAND read it to me.

Hope this helps!

Mr. Toad,
Yes, I saw that in the Apple forums. It was not enabled on my phone but I enabled it. Still not working.
I’m wondering if I need to unpair my phone and car, then pair it again. Maybe I’ll try that.

Maybe it just took awhile, but now “text messages” is enabled and works fine.
I was hoping that the message sender would be displayed when received, like when a call s coming in, but oh well.

Unfortunately, all we get is the envelope icon. Glad to hear you got it sorted!

Text messages from my Android-based Samsung Galaxy 8 come up just fine in my '13 as long as the car is stopped. It will read them aloud as well. Does anyone know of a way to get texts to work when the car is in motion? Listening to the car read a text message has got to be much safer than looking down at your phone to read a text!

That's odd - my car will read messages while I'm driving.

The E400's are the newer "facelift" version of the 207 chassis, and they have a newer version of Comand, so that does not surprise me that those cars would have more capabilities. What does interest me is that something that was not deemed to be safe enough for the car to do in a 2013 model is apparently just fine to provide in a newer model. I am just hoping that someone here will know of a way to "unlock" this texting in motion feature in my car, just like people have "unlocked" DVD video playing capabilities while a car is driving for many years.

Have you asked your Service Adviser if a COMAND software update is available for your vehicle?

I have not, but I certainly will now. Thank you for the idea. Not sure why I did not think of that, especially since I recently purchased the 2019 Comand Maps update.

My service adviser informed me that my vehicle has COMAND version NTG4.5 and the VMI showed no updates for it. I spoke with the parts manager as well, and although they offer a Maps update for Navigation, he has no update for COMAND itself. I would be surprised if the aftermarket has not come up with a way to view texts while in motion. I remember unlocking the video in motion on older Mercedes and BMW's back in the mid 2000's, so I feel there must be something out there that I am just not aware of. The search continues!
