Mercedes E450 command touchpad cracked
 

Hi

anyone experience the command touchpad cracking on it own? Maybe due to Heat?
I live in the Bay Area and the car is always in the garage and heat isn’t an issue
but yesterday I came to fresno California and the temps were in the high 90s and car stayed outside. Today I wake up and look at the pad and it’s cracked. There is no impact point and I don’t remember anything hitting it.

Gonna take it to dealership but was looking for some insight. Not even sure if warranty covers it

My touchpad failed early on and was replaced under warranty, but there was no visible crack.

Known problem replaced under warranty, reference bulletin LI54.21-P-068464.

Mercedes touch pad cracked too.

i live in the central coast avg 70degrees. I went down to the Coachella Valley a week ago temps over 100, came back and noticed the touchpad cracked. I’m curious did the warranty cover it your replacement? I was told by the dealership “they dont just crack”. They are 500$ to replace. Worst tech invention to put in a car...

“Due to the complex production process, internal stresses can develop inside the component, which can result in cracks at high outside temperatures in isolated cases.” Covered under factory warranty print a copy of bulletin (post 3) and present to SA at dealership.

Yes, just this month. It seemed to happen without any impact or without anything being placed on it. Heat was my immediate thought, so I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I haven't sent it to the dealership yet, as I'm traveling, and it's mom's car anyway.

The touch pad developed a crack right down the middle without any explanation.

Presented first evidence including photograph to my dealership, who in turn presented to Mercedes

Reply from Mercedes via dealership. Warranty claim refused by Mercedes advising the crack was due to damage.

Same situation, on my W447 Classe V Rise 220D Compact from Bologna Italy.

As I have said Mercedes America have accepted the fault and replaced under warranty.
Todate Mercedes UK have stated mine is as a result of external damage

Complaint Cracks occur on the surface of the touchpad without any external force application This problem mostly occurs at high outside temperatures

REMEDY REPLACEMENT OF THE TOUCHPAD.

It was a hard fighting, many mail, than they acceppted the change in warranty. Thanks at all for collaboration.

Mercedes UK have now changed tactic saying my car was out of Warranty. End of Warranty 27th April 2020

Final service was booked in for 3 weeks before the end of the warranty on the 6th April 2020. Received notification on the 2nd April 2020 from dealership advising Group was going into lockdown and closing all dealerships until further notice with no indication as to when they would reopen. They also advised my service and MOT had been cancelled
Car eventually serviced 24th June 2020 car now out of warranty
This is latest position Mercedes UK state my car was out of warranty.

50% contribution offer by Mercedes towards cost of replacement.

Mercedes Uk advise, they do not recognise Mercedes America bulletin on the issue.

I did ask what planet were Mercedes American cars made on then, to date no reply to this question.

I see Mercedes Italy have now accepted the issue and replaced under warranty, thank you Alexander Juke for info

Any further comments welcome.

HI, may be that this different valutation is due the climate is very different between bologna and your city. In august 40degree ouside, are 60 or more inside the car.

Thanks for sharing this bulletin. My touchpad has been cracked for a while and the dealership told me it was not covered under warranty. When I showed them the pdf, they changed their story and have ordered a new one under warranty for me!

That's awesome that you will get that sorted. It's a shame the dealer didn't take the time to look up the bulletin and fix initially.

wow! So I owe everyone a reply and a big thank you to you!!! After I posted this I got busy and totally forgot about this thread. Benz told me off hand it’s not cause of heat in 2019.
So I saw all the replies in this thread few weeks ago. Contacted them again and showed your document!
they jsut replaced it today.

got mine replaced last month, was
covered under warranty. Guy at the dealer was saying it’s a super common fix here in the Orlando Florida Mercedes dealers.

mine was replace under warranty without any issues. dealership says it's happening a lot.

Touchpad cracked
 

I brought my C63s for service in Vancouver and I asked about the touchpad they said was not covered to begin with. I showed them the warranty tip I got in this forum and they changed their minds lol so it was covered.
My touchpad cracked this summer bc we left the car in the sun.

2017 GLE450 My command center touchpad is cracked, car is out of warranty and i have purchased a new one. Now I need to know how to remove the old one. Can anyone point me to a video that shows how? Thanks!
