I'm in the middle of fitting a OM617A turbo engine from a W123 station wagon into a W460 G-Wagen. During the last few weeks I've opened the cylinder head and checked everything visually and changed necessary seals and gaskets. Everything looked really good considering the age of the engine.

Yesterday I took the lower oilpan off and found this little piece of metal lying at the bottom. It seems to be part of 6mm wide, 50-60mm diameter ring/gasket/sleeve/bearing?

Do you guys have more educated guesses?

Not really other than it might be a left over part from some other early failure of the engine .

This seems to be the case. The piece is most likely from the spacer that goes under the seal on crankshaft. And the current spacer and seal are intact.
