adjust accelerator linkage on 1983 240d

I need to adjust the accelerator linkage on my 1983 240d. It doesn't have enough length to get much speed. Thanks.

Please be more specific. Is your top speed severely limited or is your acceleration very slow? Are you sure that you are not simply experiencing normal 240D doggie performance.

Has the linkage been modified/adjusted/messed with before? If not, it probably does not need adjustment now. The throttle linkage as came from the factory is a lifetime thing except for occasional lubing of the joints. Your "speed" problem may be due to other issues, usually fuel problems.

adjust accelerator linkage on 1983 240d

My top speed is very limited. With pedal to the floor I can just get to 55 mph on flat road. Acceleration is ok. Several years ago a Mercedes mechanic replaced a piece that was plastic and had worn out. It was at top of engine.

adjust accelerator linkage on 1983 240d - FIXED

I took another look under hood and there was loose plastic piece in the firewall where rod from accelerator would rotate in. I pushed that piece back in firewall and got it tight and took the car for a ride. Much better.

That piece you describe is a known wear item on our cars. Inspect it closely and if it looks dicey, replace it. Not expensive and easy to do.

Thanks. Can you direct me to a Mercedes parts catalog that shows these parts? I'm not finding any good parts drawings, etc. Thanks again.

Your part number is 123 300 13 40 M22. It is called "accelerator pivot" and costs about $55. Available on the Pelican Parts and autohausaz web sites as well as some others. View it to make sure we are talking about the same part. Also plenty on ebay.

Please give us a status report when repaired. It helps others.
