Pictures of my "new" car

4 Attachment(s)
I've been reading posts on this forum for a little while now, so I figured I'm now ready to start posting. I have a 1992 400E with 170,000 miles on it. I've had it since last winter. In that time, I have upgraded the headlights, tail lights, and corners. I have also put on some 17" Moda wheels and vogtland springs.

I need to get some updated pictures, because I tinted the windows (35%) since these were taken.

I do most of the work on the car myself, and am pretty handy with a wrench. I'm going to college at the Ohio State University, and majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Anyways, check out the pictures I attached. The really dirty one is when I first brought the car home after buying it. Talk about dirty.

Very clean, very Euro looking :y

AMG_Fred 10-25-2005 12:53 AM

a lot better! did you paint the grille? which bulbs did you put in and is that the smoked headlights? raised the value of the car by almost double! triple if you love w124's!

The car is looking pretty good bro. How do you like the vogtland set up?

I'm doing Mechanical Engineering too with a minor in business. Good Luck! :y

The car looks great! I would say upgrade the hood and grille too but it doesn't really need it. Good work. And welcome by the way. Enjoy your time here.

Get the panels fromt he dealer that delete the wiper holes from the US lights they are cheap, I think like $10.00 each if that...

Otherwise it looks good. very clean Mods..

when you ask for the headlight panels without the wiper holes, tell them it's for a 260E or else they won't find one for your 400E.

I like the Vogtland's a lot, they really improve the handling...I just have to go up driveways and such really slowly now.

Actually I have already bought, painted, and installed the wiper-delete panels. I'll post the most recent pic of my car (with my friend's 525i)

And honestly, I think the pre-94 hood and grille setup looks better. It just looks cooler to me, so it is staying the way it is.

And yeah, I painted the grille insert black

Thanks for all the comments!

Your 400E looks fantastic BTW!!! :y :y :y

lego

Your car looks super clean and very attractive. :y

You never answered the headlight question "Are those the smoked healights?"

Very nice!

I agree with you too on the pre-94 grille setup. I think it's more aggressive than the sleeker 94-95 W124's grille setup.

myfirstbenz 10-26-2005 03:07 AM

Hey, nice work, looks just like my car :y I do love that warm color interior though... wanna trade for grey?

Legoinsaniac 10-26-2005 09:13 AM

Yes, they are smoked headlights and smoked corners. I've seen some w124's with the black housings instead of grey...is that something that you can do, or do you have to buy the headlights like that? I think it looks pretty cool.

shadowgriffen 10-26-2005 09:20 AM

Well lego my friend, you did a spectacular job on your car, keep it up :zoom:

I have smoked headlights and corners as well. May I ask, where did you happen to purchase yours from? Some people here paint the headlight housing black themselves and others like my already buy them with the black housing.

ashman 10-26-2005 08:14 PM

hehe yeah but you got the 94-95 ones chris with the indentation for the 94-95 hood on your car...

I used black sign vinyl in mine, and chrome in the foglight part..

got a question.

I may have a source for yellow H3 bulbs for the fog light section. anybody interested in picking some of those up? I'll find out next week sometime if my guy can get them.

Yeah, I'm just going to buy the smoked CORRECT headlights for my car sometime. Then just ebay the ones I have now. If you think about it, there are never any black housing headlights on USA Ebay.

Anyways, Alon are you talking about the super yellow fog lights, like the french style? My friend sean pick those up and they are super yellow!

Legoinsaniac 10-27-2005 10:38 AM

I got my headlights off of ebay like 6 months ago. I forget the details of it.

I'm really tempted to open up the euros and paint that grey part...it looks so cool black.

I might be interested in those fogs if they are the super yellow kind Chris was talking about

AMG_Eric 10-27-2005 12:11 PM

the lamps are not usually yellow. there is ususally a yellow glass covering that goes over the lamp to make it yellow.

Great Wheels

Just saw the pics of your 400E with the Moda wheels. What is the size and offset. I want to upgrade mine but am SO confused with sizes vs offset. Thanks

Legoinsaniac 02-01-2006 04:17 PM

Those are Moda R6 wheels. They are 17x7.5 with a 35 millimeter offset. If you're confused, I'd recommend going to tirerack.com and looking at the different wheels they offer for your car. You can see what wheels (and what offsets) fit. In general, offsets from 35-40 are fine. Anything above or below that could cause problems (but it could also work fine).

Smokiesman 02-01-2006 06:01 PM

Ya got to admit them Mercs cleanup pretty good!!! :y :y :y :y :y
