Perf. Mufflers

Hey all I am thinking about toying with my Exhaust on my E 320. I already have removed the cats and to my suprise there was no change in tone. Does anybody have any input on using Borla, Flowmaster or magnaflow on a 320. I know I really will not get much of a power gain but A little sound would be nice. I am not paying $500 to 800 for a Remus or Eiserman that price is just for a name.

Thanks
Brian

youre not going to get much if any performance from an exhaust. the mercedes system is very well developed. even if it is heavy and quiet.

People don't pay the big bills for a Eisenmann exhaust just for the name. You really have to be kidding me for saying so.

Sometimes you do only pay for the name but not in this case my friend... If those three are in your budget go with Borla. When switching your rear go with new piping at least cat back...

I can throw on a $15 fart can and make my benz sound nice. That's not the point of getting a performance exhaust. If it is, then you guys have been watching too much Fast n Furious. You'll want to get as much performance as you can for your money, the exhaust tone is really the icing on the cake.

What you want to do is do it right the first time. Don't cut corners, get a quality rear exhaust as much as your pocketbook will allow and then work from there. Get all new piping performance center exhaust if you need one and you should be impressed by the overall outcome. You will not get 12+ added hp but enough gain in torque to make it worth your while.

How is a Eisenmann better than Borla? Does it flow better or have longer lasting Stainless Steele? I can't find where it stands out above the rest other than being made and advertised as a "german" item. I have seen Borla's last 100,000 plus in salty winters. Dollar for dollar we need to save all the money we can to pay for gas!!!!

I am really only looking for a bit more sound.........a good sound. I don't expect to gain 20hp for a muffler. I got a Camaro for those little Honda kiddies.

Like I said if it's sound you're after then why even spend the $100 + on a Borla just buy a cheap $15 fart can. There's several reasons my friend. I'm not arguing with you about the quality of the Borla whish is great but you're looking at a universal design which is not designed specifically for your model car. The Eisenmann & Remus are made specifically for your model the inner chamber designs are different as well as tube angles. You asked for suggestions and opinions but you argue back when you get them. Why bother asking for other people's experiences and knowledge if you already made up your own mind??

My reason for asking is to get an understanding why we are expected to purchase these at such a extreme price and what warrents that price. Yes I could use a fart can but A glass packed muffler rolled in stainless does not seem to do a W124 justice not to mention they just sound like crap. I Was thinking Borla Ultra Flow with the resonator kept in line with the rest of the system? What do ya think?

Brian,

I think you're on the right track. I would also opt to go with all new larger piping (cat-back)with your Borla. It'll make a big difference. Good luck and let us know how it turns out

Well the basis behind this all is I had a Hemi Dodge ram and purchased my E 320 a year ago to save on gas. Well now the Dodge is sold and I can't imagine parting with my Benz. I want to do a budgetly tasteful mods. I have made a couple of mods to the stock air box Removed the cats..that really helped. I know Mercedes really maxed these cars out but I still believe we can add to it as we go. I love toasting these little Hondas and nissans with my Older....stronger...graceful...Mercedes.

Thanks guys
