Good Deal Or Not For 88' 300E?
Hi, I am new to the forums and am looking at a 1988 300E. I was hoping you MB pros could tell me the things to look for and if it sounds like a solid deal. It has 148K miles, fully loaded, Black and in excellent condition, black leather interior and new paint and no leaks... for $2250. I am planning to go see it in person tomorrow but the pic looks really nice. Does it sound like a good deal? What would be common problems I should look for or ask about? Are Mercedes really expensive to fix like I have heard? Sorry I asked so many questions but I do appreciate the help.

If the car is clean and well kept this sound like a good deal. If you are a DIY this type of car does not give you too much trouble to fix things yourself. The technology of the W124 is not so highly integrated as the current W210 or W211 are, so a lot of things can be done with basic knowledge and basic tools. The cost of the MB-shop are probably "high", but I had two of those W124 and the the MB-shop did not see me many times. Check for leaks of the front cover of the engine, this is a weak point of many car that age and milage. Nothing serious but messy, since the oil is always blown along the engine and drips to the floor pan. Check the A/C deeply. Because if the compressor, the evapurator or condenser are to be swapped it is expensive. The same goes for the automatic tranny.
