Led Bulbs

Has anyone replaced the individual incandescent #1156 (#7506 /#5008) type lamps with LED lamps ?
Probably will need to add a load resistor on the turn signal/flasher lamp.

I have been looking into that too but can't decide on the style that would work best.

I have also toyed with the idea of replacing the small bulbs for all the gauges and switches too. Can't decide on the color though.

If you do a search you'll find a few people who've done it.

LED mod does like quite good, Im just not sure I can do all the requisite interior stripping to change them.

Not doing the interior, initially just the red stop/tail light section.
Years ago I added the fog light sockets in both tailight assemblies and connected to the brake lights.
Will replace all six incandescents 1156 type lamps with LED's.
I think I've decided on the LED type.

You can buy an aftermarket LED tail light assembly thats plug and play. I feel it looks a bit out of place but preferences vary.

What kind are you going with. My concern with such a switch is that you could get a spot effect if they do not produce enough light to fill the reflectors...

I prefer to stay with the original tail light assemblies and just change out the light source.
Some of the LED units don't seem to be serviceable and the quality isn't OEM.

I, myself am very interested in changing all the exterior bulbs to LED's !! Which includes,

Front and Rear Indicators
Tail Light
Brake Light
Tail Brake Light
Reverse Light

Just don't know, if these bulbs existed in an LED form, and if there were any mods necessary to install them. It would be a lot brighter, longer life and quicker response !!

Let me know, if anyone actually has done them already, or does them in the near future.

Look at the link on post #9.

These are the ones that I'll start with, red color for the tail/stop lights.
They are direct replacement for the 1156 style lamps, and will fit directly into the socket with no mod.

If they work, I'll then go to the amber turn/flashers.
I might have to add a load resistor to prevent rapid flashing.

I'm ordering today and should be able to post results next week !

Yeah I'm watching those bulbs on ebay, I'll just wait until you are done and then make a move. PLUS, I have no idea what the hell is a load resistor and what it does, or what it looks like.....my electrical and mechanical knowledge is equal to that of a valium

Also consider the bulb out warning. You'll need enough current running so not to set it off.

Received the 1156 type lamps and they look great.
Will post some DIY pix.

The stock taillight lamp holder has a place for the inner fog light.
Years ago I installed 1156 type lamps in this location and wired to the brake light.
I'm purchasing another tail lamp assembly so I can install the contact instead of soldering the lamp to the wire.

Also the large 1156 ( www.vleds.com )type lamps only work in the brake light position.

The tail/side lamp are smaller diameter 5008 / 67 type.
I just ordered these smaller diameter from www.superbrightleds.com and they are listed as #67R15 @ $4.99 each.

Once I get these done, I'll decide if I want to do the turn signal and back up light.

What I noticed is that the red led makes the lens look very red, not as orange red as the stock incandescent lamp

Please do I'd love to see a brief video clip, that would give the best sense of the color.
