E320 Wagon looking
New Guy Lookin' for a Wagon!!

Hello all,

I have been reading this forum for a while now trying to gather info and insight on my possible new vehicle. I am looking for something reliable fun to drive comfortable with some style and utility. So I have narrowed it down to a 1995 E320 Wagon or possibly a 92-95 BMW 525/535 (E34) Touring. As I already own two BMW's;1984 (E30) 318i and a 1999 (E38) 750IL. So I already understand German car maintenance. I am leaning more towards the MB, I just love German cars.
I am also considering a 300TD (?) or possibly an even older Mercedes Diesel wagon. What issues or red flags should I look for in E320?? Over a 100k miles is that a huge issue for a MB Gasoline powered vehicle? Should I just go towards the Diesel? What should I pay? I am looking for a car that will be my everyday car, driving highway speeds down to complete traffic jams. Thanks all looking forward to your advice and replies.

Dig though creigslist and ebay. newspapers, and the Classifieds on this site.

-this is a w124 section. 95-02 is 210

And keep looking, cause personally and from what i can find the 93 w124 are top of the food chain.
although i love my 86 cause its easy to fiddle with.

Good luck to ya

Please excuse our floodkid, he hasn't had his milk this morning

1995 is indeed a W124.
If you like the facelift, and from your selection it may seem you do, 1994-1995 are the years. I personally like the older grill, so a 1992-1993 would be preferred (in order to get the M104, 3.2).

Do a search, there is a TON of posts on this subject. But in the shortest possible way there are the Mighty4 in these models(W124): Head gasket, evaporator, wiring harness, EActuator.

My GF just picked up a 1995 E320 Wagon for $5000 with 120K from the original owners with every single pc of paperwork for service, along with the window sticker and polaroids of the car when the keys were handed over (yeah, no kidding). She was looking for about 3 months and I think she got very lucky because 1. It has ever option available at the time (proven by the window sticker) 2. It was local in Atlanta!

Mine is mint as well and this one almost having twice the mileage is just as nice! So don't let the mileage fool you in these models, they will run circles around what cars are being released today (except the C63 AMG ).

Good luck, and search the forum.

Yep, same issues for the model base W124.
These problems are not a matter of "if", but "when" - So you really want to pay special attention to these.

Other checks:
1. SLS - Self leveling system. Pump and lines can be problematic if not serviced or maintained.
2. Make sure that the coolant is clear, not green, yellow, or blue.

Other than these specific MB/W124 issues, take the usual precautions when purchasing a used car.
