this might help if you do HAVE to remove the door pannel.
Good luck!!!!
SAME thing happened to me while my dad was deliberatly trying to crush my brother's knee one day.
I tried cutting corners by going with a switch (saving money on the motor) and much to my surprise all is back to normal!
EDIT: THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THE DOOR PANEL.

P.S why are them door panel so cheesie they seem to never go on right after u take them off same thing happened with back door when my regulator went.
step 1: pull the knobs for the buttons off. Don't worry you won't break them.
step 2: take a flat- head screwdriver and carefully pry the trim panels off
step 3: should be pretty obvious which screws/wires to remove to get the unit out of the door. Take care not to drop any screws into the door panel, or you WILL be taking the panel off.
Step 4: get some electrical contact cleaner. Comes in a spray can. you can get it at radioshack. Also get some tweezers, a small container to hold tiny little springs and ball bearings, a good lamp, some q-tips, and some paper towels.
Step 5: sit at your kitchen table with all the sh*t I just rattled off in step 4. Very carefully remove the screw (I think there's just one) on the face of the unit and pry the thing apart. Make sure to keep the unit as flat as possible on the table (with the prongs/switch lever thingies pointed toward the ceiling). There are many little tiny springs and ball bearings in there that will fall out if you're not careful... if you lose too many of them you'll be buying a new switch.
Step 6: Carefully examine how the mechanism works, where the springs and ball bearings go. Once you understand how one of the switches work, you'll understand the rest. It's actually a pretty fascinating and logical little gadget. Use the tweezers to remove the springs and ball bearings and put them in a container of some kind for safe-keeping.
Step 7: use the contact cleaner, paper towels, q-tips, etc to clean off all of the contact points. get them good and shiny.
Step 8: reassemble.
After I did this, it fixed my seat problems completely. nice little 2 hour project. I posted a much more detailed DIY on mercedesshop under the same screenname (Bigpete123) if you need more info.
Don't buy a new switch until you try this. It only costs like $5-10 to fix.
