It adds quite a bit of weight to the car which will add more inertial mass which in effect could lower MPG, but I think it should be mostly negligable. Your driving style probably affects the MPG the most.

I drive until the light comes on, usually at between 325 and 350 miles. I check my mileage every time I fill up, which is about every 4 work days. This morning I computed 22mpg for my last tank. I usually am anywhere from 21 to 24. My fill up is usually between 16 and 16.5 gallons and right now that's $48 to $50.
I think the mpg is pretty good in my 1995 E320 and that is part of the reason I am holding out about really considering a new car. I want to see the new diesels that are on the very near horizon for import into the US. My next car just has to get close to 50mpg, or I ain't buying. The good news is that my car keeps on going, even though it has some issues, so I think I really can wait to see the new diesels.

I just received my first 300TE, the first two tank was quite poor:14 and 16. I can accept that since it hadn't been used for almost two years. This week I will have the car serviced, will change all lubricants as well as a set of new sparks/tyres/air filter installed, hopefully the mpg will reach 22-25.

I consistently avg'd 23-24 mpg with my 300E.. 50-50 city-hwy driving.
I get better hwy milage with my 540 than I do with my 300E. RPM's are too high in the 300E at hwy speeds.

I have no idea how or why, but I got the BEST gas mileage to date last night on a short trip to pick up some lift passes a few citys over.
120.6 miles
4.242 gallons
You do the math.
Average speed was about 75-80mph with a couple 95+ mph sprints when I was trying to check out this dudes HID's.
