found another sportline!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...222721206&rd=1

Service records are close to complete.

Okay, this needs a head gasket. I spoke at length with seller, I liked his reasons for selling, Wifey wants a Honda.

Question: With a head gasket in this car at 100K, would a preventative valve job at this mileage be smart, or is it probably a good $ gamble to skip valves unless something obvious calls for them?

Owner sounds meticulous and not nearly as excited about the sportline edition as I am. I have the black Sportline already, did not expect to land another but always looking for good deals on these, even if I store it until I need it (unlikely!). I gave him $4350, and shipping will probably bite me for antother $750. Maybe a little less.

Combined with a UNC takedown of Duke, this has been a good evening.

I have done 7 full engine out rebuilds and 3 top ends of various cars. My opinion is that if you have the head off anyways send it to a good machine shop. Have it acid dipped, planed, valve and valve guides checked, pressure tested and so on. Up here in Illinois you can get that from a reputable shop for about $250.oo on that head. The piece of mind of having this done is inexpressible. Every time you crack open the throttle you will know full well that you have a good, sealed and tight head. I had a head that I did not plane go back on a car and the head gasket leaked from the beginning and 3 weeks later we were pulling it to do it "right".

Just my opinion but have a machine shop revamp the head and any valves they feel it necessary to do. By the way look for a shop that has been around a while and is run by the oldest guy you can find. It just seems like most often they are the best.

Hey, Thanks for the good advice. I have such a shop (2 really) but the one I use turns things around fast- the other is run by a retired Mercedes master mechanic...but this car would sit 2+ months.

Thanks again!
