1990 300D went into neutral while driving
My 1990 300D auto (about 130K on it) went into neutral while I was driving...heard a soft ping and instant neutral...no matter where the shift lever was put (the orange marker will not move from D) ....now stays in neutral or park...how hard is it to connect the shifter linkage back up if that is the problem? Just before this is would not shift out of 1st or 2nd (stick a lot up to 4K-5K rpm) before a shift. It always seemed to shift hard but at the correct points before this all happened then the shifting seemed to work itself back to the 'just hard shifting' at the correct speeds...then ping. I just drove this car across the USA 7K miles.... with only wierd tire wear...back to MB dealer for the alignment (I replaced an inner tierod end myself and took it to Midas for a $29.95 special alignment where they did nothing but tell me my wheel bearings were bad not correcting the severe toe in)...7K miles later ... wheel bearings still seem good to me but tires took a beating...the outer edges are about wore off both fronts.

I am sorry to hear that man, can be anything with the suspension or new shifter arm (with in the engine and center console). Anyway just hope you can get it fixed ASAp its a great car.
