ps2cho, arn't you the one who asked to see pics of my intake? Sorry I never got back to you before, photobucket wasn't working for me at the time. Here it is...
You can see in this one where I routed the new intake runner. I removed all the AC components and stuck it in my fender where there used to be a little AC module (not sure what it is really called)
The hole I cut in the back of the airbox is about 3"wide by 2"tall. I used the AC ducting out of a 1978 300D, but I'm sure that you could get the same pieces out of any older Mercedes
I was worried at first about dirt coming up through the fender, but I've kept a close eye on it and the filter always seems fine, but I still replace it every 9,000 miles.
Not sure if there is any gain whatsoever because I don't have a dyno, but I like to think it gives me an edge. It certainly isn't hurting anything and best of all, it was free!

a dremel would work. I used a dye grinder because it's faster. Just use a cutting wheel to get the aproximate size, then use a sanding wheel to get it to fit up. Just be careful becuase if you go oversize there's no going back, so be sure to check the whole to the size of your hose often.
