My E has about 78K on it and I have been running it happily for about 6 months, during which time the temp gauge consistently ran below 80 d. I recently replaced the voltage regulator and removed and resealed the gasket in the aux water pump which was leaking through on of the screws that couples the pump and motor. The car now runs consistently (so far, but I am nervous) at 90 d. or so. Not a nice change. My multimeter bailed so I am getting a new one to check the voltage, I have checked for air gaps at the bleed point on the block. Any thoughts? What is your normal operating temp? Where in the darn CD's is the cooling system(!@#@#!!!)? Thanks!

I have an 89 300E that i just replaced the radiator on. It ran for almost 2 years at 80 C. now with the new radiator its stable at 90 C. the big difference I saw was the coolant was always a little low (not to set the light off) but slightly low. I think this helped lower the temp a bit. If you refilled your coolant after sealing the pump it may be full and correct now.
