1991 420SEL & 300E, 2003 BMW X5, 2001 740iL all on DUBS
voltage regulator

does anyone know where the voltage regulator is located? when my car is off voltage across battery is 12V but when on voltage is in 14v range so i need to replace the regulator if i can find it thanks guys

It's in your alternator, remove 2 screws and pull it out. Look for wear of the brushes...

What numbers are you expecting? 14 volts running, and 12volts on the battery when your car is off is acceptable. The rest voltage in your battery deteriorates as the battery ages. 12 volts indicates an aging BUT still good battery, and in no way indicates a bad regulator. If while runing under load, you have high 13's to low 14's, your alternator and regulator are o.k. as far as the volts are concerned.
