Lowering my w124 400e any suggestions?
Hello i was wondering if you guys know which are the best springs/shocks or coil-overs to lower my car. As of right now its sitting on 18 inch Monoblocks with low profiles and i wanted to know which setup would go perfect with not to much rubbing.. Thanks for your help. file:///C:/Users/Tomas/Desktop/24690_114911275187046_100000045214375_272142_23485 6_n.jpg

I also went too low and was not loving the dd's daily butt beating.
The Sportline suspension is Mercedes own sporty compromise.
My silver wagon and white Cabriolet were very low, but raised to Sportline height and I love both cars far more this way.
It is just a little lower than stock.

I've thus far reasoned against lowering the 500 despite my undying need to change every car I own....

H&Rs with either Koni's or Bilsteins for a good drop...or maybe just go to #1 spring pads all around for a mild drop with OE Sportline Springs.
You prolly won't like coil-overs...too stiff.

High rear camber, fronts on bump stops with no travel, rear with plenty of travel and far too short stops, constant fear of rashing the bottom of the car on every bump & piece of ice in the road, having to do the pothole dance like a pro, miserable cabin noise & vibration over bad roads, etc.
However, the car looks amazing, handles completely differently & far better, and on smooth pavement, is perfectly quiet & composed.
As I said, I'm not entirely thrilled, but there are certainly benefits that I'm quite grateful for. I just live in areas with crap roads.

Nice 400e! I have had lowering woes, but not quite the ones described above. Everyone is correct that the ride will get harsher after lowering. This will be particularly true with 18" rims. I have 17" monoblocks with H&R springs and run 215/50/17 tires instead of the "proper" plus one size of 225/45/17. I have tried both sizes and the difference in ride harshness between the two is night and day. I also run the maximum bump stop pads (4 front, 3 rear). The taller sidewall on the 215/50 along with the thicker pads gives a much better ride and is probably the only reason the lowered ride is acceptable (to me). However, with 18" monoblocks, a taller sidewall would not really be an not an option for you.
The problems I have had have been related to the H&R springs themselves. The left rear spring essentially sagged, becoming about a 10 - 12 mm shorter than when installed. This caused spring clatter that in turn cost me a lot of time and money to find the source. H&R has replaced the spring, but now the left and rear sides are not at the same height (the new spring sits about 5-7 mm taller than the other spring). H&R claims these issues never happen, but those issues are sitting in my driveway! I'm thinking about going with the some sportline springs, not so much for the change in ride quality, but rather to eliminate the quality problems. A set of sportline springs with minimum bump pads should look reasonably good.
btw, is that pic at the Gateway Shopping Center? Looks familiar.

do you still have the h&r's for sale there mr geosss?? & thank you guys sorry for such a late reply.. But i lost the thought of lowering it because i am getting it painted but now back to the thought of lowering it lol.. Does anyone know about reviews of vogtlands or h&r's and with what type of shocks? would i rub alot with 18's thanks..
Your's appears to have a V8 so that will add to the total.
In your shoes I would be tempted to stay with original spec. Failing that, H&R and others observe the points system and may be able to match your requirement.
I would say that the best compromise is MB's Sportline spec.

Awsome rim(s) ... are those it? chromed lips with gold bolts? I know a set of those can cost more than these cars themselves nowadays !
Can I ask what offset you are planning to run and the tire size on that 18x10?

I have these lying around from my old '92 400E with Bilstein Sports. Nice ride, moderate lowering, looking for a good home. Sorry no pics of the car

How much would it drop your car? 1.2-1.5 inches? Where the amg springs original on your car or you bought them yourself? and you have bilstein shocks to go with these springs? whats the condition of the shocks? how much you asking for everything?
