Carbon fiber hood

Hey all you Benz lovers, I've got a question...My hood is a rusting peice of crap, I NEED A REPLACEMENT! I was wondering if you guys now any good sources for cheap replacement hoods OR if you guys have heard of any carbon fiber hoods for the w-124 chassis. Any help would be greatly appreciated

CF hood... not available but can be made $$$$$$. Even if you wanted to do an overlay....$$$$

For that kind of money you might as well do a SL hood replacement, if you know what I mean.

Well maybe...

Thanks for the Reply AMG. I am going to get a new hood one way or another and I'm not satisfied with keeping the original hood. I want something different. Has anyone ever done a SL hood conversion? Does anyone know how difficult it would be to perform? One more question, where would a go to get a carbon fiber hood fabricated? Any creative/insightful ideas would be excellent because I want to make this happen. Thanks!

You might check out bnzsport.com. There are guys on that list that are into major mods. I read one of them made alot of CF parts but haven't heard of the hood. You might try the import sports magazines. There are alot of CF suppliers and I'm sure they could make something for you if they don't already do so.

A real carbon fiber hood will probably cost more than the value of the car.
As a suggestion, you could find an excellent condition hood at a recycler for about $200. Than add a scoop or two, available at most speed shop for about $100.

Alright!

Thanks for the input, I just had a stroke of luck, as it turns out one of my friends relatives has been custom fabricating carbon fiber stuff for his rx-7 at his shop that he works in. He said he's going to give me an estimate in a couple of days...hope it doesn't cost a fortune.........

Enzo, my Benzo
A thought just occured to me when I was thinking about a CF hood for my Benzo: Will real CF or a CF overlay reduce the capability of the hood to crumple properly in an accident? This should be a major concern to everyone (especially all those ricers with CF hoods) because if it is affected, the hood could be turned into a deadly projectile in a front end collision. CF is more rigid than steel....correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to be a genuine concern...

I don't know whether or not its true, but I've heard from a few sources that in violent front end collisions, the CF hoods have been known to break of the hinges, while still remaning solid and going right through the windshield, sheering the passenger and driver's head off. If this is the case, I'd consider it quite a safety concern.
