I bought a 300 E, have some Q's and need help

Hello people of mbworld,

I bought my first car last week, a 1985 300 E. The year is kind of weird because if you look on Wikipedia they say that the W124 started in 1986. What's up with that?

I do have (a couple of) issues however.

3/4 electric windows don't work. Driver side windows works though. A friend of mine took the panel of the door behind me out and but the motor didn't even move. Fusebox leads are all intact and have running power, but none comes to the rest of the windows. Cables look intact for all I can see.

Engine doesn't start easy. I sometimes need to hold the key for 10 seconds but sometimes it starts easily. Not sure where to start looking.

Engine does not run smootly when idle. Seems to be at 700RPM if I can guess right. I may be connected to the starting issue but I'm not sure.

Center fans only blow warm air. Dash job needed?

Radio stopped turning on. I was picking up a friend and it worked fine but when I drove the car a couple of hours later the radio wouldn't turn on anymore. Fusebox leads are good and have running power.

Thanks in advance.

People never seem to have the same problem though. I am suspecting some things like a broken coil and a worn button for the window controls.

Maz keep looking you will find someone to help you ,dont give up .Check all earth leads and clean them up The battery is the first to work on .Put a little grease on as you put them back on ..Then all the small bore pipes you can find , look at the rubber fixings that join one to another. Did you check the 12 volts at the connector on the door after you removed the door cards. You have a switch on the dash to stop operation of some of the windows ,i think all but the drivers window ,this is to stop the children opening them up on the move. I will pop back to see how you get on .
