1991 300CE & 1995 E320 Wagon
Just another my new w124 thread.

So I decided it would be fun to have another 300CE. I had a '89 about 10-years ago and liked it. Purchase parameters were M104 powered, preferably pre-face-lift, black on black, and hopefully under $5000 which would allow for upgrading without breaking the bank.

Upgrades would be:

H&R Springs.
Bilstein Sports.
AMG 17" Monoblocks.
AMG body kit w/ducktail spoiler.

Watching CL for 2-months here in SoCal netted only a few possibilities - I had one guy 30-miles away that I would have bought his black on black 250K miles CE but he never had time to meet up, after his last weak excuse (after over a month of flake outs) I widened my search to within 500 miles and was rewarded with a nice looking '91 in Las Vegas. SUCCESS! Black/black, body-kit (w/ducky spoiler!) 17" AMG's, and 90K miles. The only problem was it wouldn't be until the next weekend that I would have the time available to see it. 5-days of phone calls to the owner (He also owns a w210 and a w114 coupe) and a deposit later.

Oh dark thirty Saturday morning wifey and I hop into our rented Hyundai something or other (I didn't care what model it was, I told the agent at Enterprise "4-wheels, 2-seats, and preferably cruse control.. other than that I could care less") and headed for Sin City. Other than passing a Ferrari 488 near Barstow the drive up was uneventful.

Arrive at the sellers house, check the car out, exchange paper with pics of dead presidents for title, pack the coupe's trunk with my standard "car buying retrieval kit", turn in the Hyundai _______ and we're on the road with legal pad in hand to start listing the "issues" with the car.

Top 10 "issues" that I was made aware of or observed:

1. Car has been ghetto lowered (springs cut or heated) and the front fender lips have been rolled by what looks like using a shop rag and vice-grips. (Front tires lightly rub when the suspension loads (speed bumps etc.).

(The fix; H&R, Bilstien Sports, and new tie-rod ends, suspension bushings, alignment.)

2. Front end shimmy between 60-65MPH. Hopefully Fix for #1 will resolve it

3. Car won't start with key (Push button installed in the knee bolster for starter. Might be OVP(?). either way.. Easy to diagnose and fix.

4. Car is very difficult to start after sitting for longer than 30-min.

OVP maybe..

5. CEL disabled.

OVP or ?

6. Rear headrests do not fold when dash button pushed. Easy to diagnose and fix.

7. Seatbelt handovers are non-op. Easy to diagnose and fix.

8. blower motor non-op. Easy to diagnose and fix.

9. Blown fuse in OVP (The first thing that I'll deal with this morning after coffee and posting this thread).

10. $10.00 swap meet/ghetto DRL mounted under front bumper. (already "took care of" those in the parking lot at Carl's Jr in Stateline!).

Other that that the car is a sweetheart to drive.. She likes the #2 lane and cruising between 75-85MPH.

Thanks for reading and Cheers!

Nice car, which I could imagine will be VERY sweet when you are done with putting your own personal touches on the car.

I always enjoy this emensly, when I clean up a newly purchased used car to my liking.

I would enjoy some pictures of your car once you did the things you wanted to do to it and call it your own.

Congrats!!!

Thanks S70..

My wife (Janet) and I also bought this nice 1995 E320 wagon last weekend (it's replacing our Jeep Grand Cherokee) as our daily driver/utility vehicle.. and Janet absolutely loves it! Her previous car was a Jaguar XJ6.

Very nice.
What's there NOT to love, it is a Mercedes.

Love the W124's and am searching for a good 400E or E420 myself.

'been a bit busy fixing things on the coupe and the wagon.

The coupe is progressing nicely.

notice pass. door mirror.. found it for about $100.00 off of ebay UK, the look of the "square" mirror paired with the rectangular (driver's) mirror always annoyed me..
