I have a 94 E320. It was driving well, then the Kick down switch got stuck so we removed it, Didnt replace it yet. The car was still driving well, One day went down the hwy at 60 mph. Next day it went into limp mode. My son found it had too muchf luid in the tranny not sure if that could cause a problem, he removed alot of the overfill, now its at an acceptable level, but car went into limp mode. We tried a few things and checked the code. We got Code 5 and 3. My son says level went down today so he put in what is called Lucas to lubricate any sticky things. He removed battery and put it back and the check engine lilght went out. It is still in limp mode. I read you can reset your tranny and that its not hard to fix a limp mode. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS. Or this car is bound for the auction block in town. We did some work to it, replaced radiator, and overflow tank. Also new fan belt. Can less power in the battery cause problems. I think out battery is fully charged. HELP

The fluid level in the transmission and the limp mode have nothing to do with each other - the transmission in US cars is strictly mechanical/hydraulic so there is nothing to reset.

The problem you are experiencing may be related to the so called ecco junk wiring problem. Basically, the wiring in the engine harness and the Electronic Throttle Actuator (ETA) deteriorates causing faults, including limp home mode. Search the various W124 forums for how to check the dates on your harness and ETA - anything before 1998 is a bad. If the wiring/ETA is original (e.g., pre '98), the only cure is to replace it.
