m104 oil leak
Hi guys. So i just completed a head gasket on my '96 c280 (M104). New timing cover gaskets and seals, new chain guides, new oil pump chain guide, new crankshaft seal, new valve cover gasket and spark plug seals as well. (also did a new water pump and t/stat) Head gasket was victor reinz.
When i start the engine i get a small but steady flow of oil coming out the rear of the engine, above the transmission. (almost as if the oil was leaking out of the valve cover.)
Do you guys have any ideas as to where the oil is coming from? I just spent so much time putting it back together, and now this.
thanks in advance

I had experience hunting down a mysterious leak from my Jaguar with an in-line six engine. From what you described, the leak is very much likely from the back of the engine and the gearbox where there is usually an oil plug - there is usually another one at the front of the engine but normally it is the one at the back that goes bad sooner thus causing leak. The oil plug may cost less than a dollar but labour will cost an arm and a leg, as you have to drop the engine to gain access to and replace the oil plug.

SOLVED!
So, I pulled the valve cover off to inspect more towards the rear of the head. I found the problem! One of the half-moon camshaft seals was ****-eyed and not seated properly. Du-oh! I can only blame myself for that one.
Now I just have to figure out this annoying idle "hunting" the engine's doing. Research shows to check the coils, plug wires, vacuum leaks, OVP.
Do these possibilities sound right to you guys? (I have new plugs installed.)
