Unhappy 400E died in reverse, now won't start

Hey guys, today when backing into the driveway my 400E (that I just bought..) died and will not start. I put the car in reverse, gave it a little gas and it just cut out. Engine was running perfectly, oil pressure good. The shift into reverse was a little heavy, not a loud clunk but a bit more than normal. Now when I try to start it it cranks but won't turn over, the battery is brand new. I'm thinking it's electrical, something to do with the gear selector maybe? Don't think it's the neutral safety switch as I can put it in P or N and it cranks in both. Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated

Also I should mention the "bulb out" switch had come on the dash in recent days. I've heard some Mercs will not start if the brake light switch is malfunctioning, but the brake lights will still work.
