What CD-Changer will work in my 1992 300D 2.5

I have a 1992 300D 2.5 that I just recently purchased. In the trunk up on the left there are several wires and connectors that look to have plugged into a CD player or something.

I know this car could have came with the optional trunk mounted cd-player.

My question is this: Are all the cars prewired for the CD-Changer? One wire looks like a network cable (phone plug) and there is an antenna wire. There is a cellphone antenna in the rear window also.

If the car is wired for a CD-Changer, what models will work with the OEM MB radio?

Thanks,

Jay

I have a 94 E320, but I think the setup is pretty similar. I just purchased an Alpine CHM s630, with a Peripheral MBZALP9 adapter. My wire was on the passenger side of the trunk, and it is a 10-pin connection. It was behind the carpet to the rear of the wheel well. I believe that the Alpine is the only cd changer that will work with your head unit, unless you get a stock or Becker changer. Hope this helps.

Do you know which Alpine models will work, or will all of them? Where do I purchase this adapter?

Did you have to run a new cable up to the head unit or was the original used?

Thanks,

Jay

I'll explain what I did for my car. Mine has a different head unit than yours, (BE1492 vs. yours (probably BE1432)) and mine was prewired. I would think that yours would also be prewired and that the different head unit would not make much difference. The Alpine I installed (CHM s630) is the only changer that would work with the original head unit. The CHM s630 replaced the CHM s620, has cd-r/rw reading capabilities, and is apparently cheaper (I paid $280 for changer and adaptor at Good Guys). I believe that the changer must be M-bus (not sure what that means). To install it, I simply pulled back the carpet on the right side of the trunk, and found the 10 pin connector. Then all you have to do is plug in the adaptor to the 10 pin connector, and then to the changer. No extra wires are needed. I believe it's pretty much plug and play. No programming, no unhooking the battery, etc. I installed mine last week, and it took me 2 minutes to get it hooked up properly. (installing the hardware took a little longer).

You could also look on www.mercedesshop.com on their forums. They have a forum for just car audio, and there are very knowledgeable people on there, especially Scott, from La Jolla Audio. Just do a search and you should come up with lots of info.

Thanks Matt,

you answered all my questions!

My car is prewired, and it looks like there was a player in it but it was taken out (the wires are dangling there).

I've read other places that only M-bus alpines will work...I assume it has to deal with the interface or something.

Thanks again for the help
