I am keeping a lookout for a cheap W124 Coupe to work on and restore.
I came across one parked outside a shop the other night.
I attach some pictures and a video I took of the car.
I was able to have a peek inside the car and the engine bay, the car started but ran very rough. I may have caught sight of some white smoke from the exhaust.
Now, I want to go into this potential purchase with the worst-case scenario in mind. ( Bad engine, transmission, etc. ) I will perhaps have a closer look at it today and see if I can drive it.
I pulled the VIN and it states a 300CE. However, the badging says 300 CE- 24V
The owner is asking $1900 for it.
Can I have your thoughts on price, and what to look out for and what I may need to consider if I decide to pick it up and start restoring it.
Any insight would be highly appreciated.
I' ve always wanted a C124 since I was a kid. This could be my only chance as not many of them are in circulation and we cannot import them into my country just yet.
That isnt a 300CE 24V, its a single cam 12V. I think the 5 speed automatic is better, it's a 4 speed with a overdrive bolted on to it. Does it really have self leveling suspension, if it does you might need to replace the spheres/accumulators.
I think @optimusprime m1 has a similar engine in his car.
