I hate to answer questions with questions, but:

1: Do you really believe that the mileage is true?
2: How badly do you want a 500?

The rest is up to you. It will cost you two arms and one leg to keep that thing up. Throw in another leg if you have to restore it !!

Back on topic....(even though the auction has ended)....

The seller claims that only 700 were made worldwide. I would double check his facts if I were you.

BTW, $20-$25K for a low mileage example is good, if the car/maintenance history checks out.

That would be a good price for an E500...if everything on it was OK. Sometimes cars like that with low miles are more problematic than ones that were driven.

There were 10,500 or so 500E/E500s made between 1990-95..so about 2500 per year. In the USA, only 374 were imported in 1994. Seller sounds like he doesn't know jack about them...which could work in your favor.

If you have another car to drive then get one...you wouldn't want one as a sole mode of transport IMO.

Really? That sounded like an amazing deal to me? Thought those cars where alot more desirable because of the whole porsche thing and 5.0 v8, seems like 38000 is pretty low mileage, anyway just wondering, if current 124 owners arn't to keen on the car should probebly stay away unless just want it for a collectable?

Only the 1992 500E (and a few 1993 versions I think) were built by Porsche. The 1994 cars were built by MB. The 1994 cars do look better but you can get a low mile 1992 and install the 1994 parts to the exterior if you want the new style car. The 1992 cars had Brembo sourced brakes up front but later versions went with extremely heavy SL500 and SL600 front calipers. These brakes do not perform as well as the 1992 500E Brembo brakes so this is a good reason to look for a nice 1992 (or just buy the brakes from a second hand buyer).

I have watched low miles 500E's go in the mid 20's. A few 50k mile old 1992's have gone for about 23k, but as of late nice cars are pulling slightly less.

Indeed i had to put 5 grand into my '91 300 (3 months ago) right off the bat when i got it....just to get it back up to speed. Only did it because it was an inherited car from the family.

this one may be better with such lower mileage and 3 years newer but still...
