1991 300E
worn out driver's door lock cylinder

My key has been sticking in the driver's door of my 1991 300E. It does not stick in the passenger door lock or the ignition. I have tried with the regular key and spare key and they both stick in Driver's lock only. Can I replace just the driver's locking cylinder or do I need a whole new set of locks?

Unless somebody has the answer, I think the dealer can best answer that question.
If you're a DIYer, there are two thoughts I'd like to pass on:

- See what a locksmith can do for you. They often handle automotive work.
- Swap tumblers with the passenger side. It might buy you another 13 years service.

Thanks, problem fixed for now

I tried to switch tumblers last night but was afraid to disconnect the wires attached to the lock mechanism. I ended up spraying a shot of WD-40 into the cylinder and that fixed the problem. I guess fillings had started to build up inside the tumbler.

Locks need to be lubricated once in a while. You may want to make this part of your regular maintenence.

They sell lube specially for locks - a graphited lubricant, though once in a while people report having problems where the conductive properties of the graphited lube cause problems with the electricals attached to modern door locks. The best lube in that case is something called a triflow lock lube.
