Well, sure its fake CF, but how many cars now adays come with faux wood, brushed aluminum and carbon fiber trim? The W202 C280 Sport had faux carbon fiber B-pillar trim. It's just a low cost way of "jazzing" up the interior.

Sure the trim in newer cars and W202's are fake but they're not stickers. It's just my opinion and I think it makes the car look cheaper

Those $200+ aftermarket "wood", "carbon fiber" and "brushed aluminum" dash kits are all applied using adhesive backing. They just "stick" on to the dash and door panels. Doesn't that make them just more expensive stickers?

Hey, I guess it looks like "***" to you and I can't change your opinion. Nor, do I wish to try and change your opinion. This forum consists of many different minds and mentalities, and thats why I like it here. I don't take anything personal, because everyone has a right to an honest opinion, kind of like constructive criticism. I received a ton of compliments on my custom "***" , and it added a "sportier" look to my dash.

In the end, it doesn't really matter to me, because I sold that car almost a year ago.

hmmm...why would I want to paint over the wood? I choosed to go with the vinyl route so I can maintain the wood still incase I ever wanted to go back. Keep in mind, our wood trims are EXPENSIVE.

Clean, unfaded, non-cracked wood is expensive. *****ty condition 15yr old wood trim would only bring the value down for my car since I won't be selling it to a grandpa anytime soon.

The paint route may be permanent but it looks the best IMO and is durable.

Mike they are not "expensive stickers" just because they have adhesive behind them The stuff you put on your car is a vinyl sticker plain and simple and with the imperfections, bubbles and creases in your pic, I don't see how others think it looks good. Oh well I guess to each their own.

I'm not here to insult your work or cars to those that went the vinyl route, hell I even tried the fake CF on my car for an hour :p

LOL. You guys are something.... I tell yah !!! Thumbs up to yall that are behind painting etc.!!! Actually I thought about putting something black over dash pieces but the rest will definitely be painted soon. I'll let you posted with updates...like my little GPS project, for example, I can't finish because the trim is still not painted. Well...this is where my dilema starts. I never started something w/o completing everything the right way, bacause putting something black over dash trim will still look like crap. I wish I could have enough money to just give it away to someone and just pay for the job well done. Oh, well..........
Good luck guys with whatever makes you happy with upgrading your cars.....but please - JUST DO IT RIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Painting is still the best route IMO, as for the dash pieces just those in vinyl wouldn't look too bad with the rest painted...

I disagree.. i see heavy straight contrast with the black and silver, it couldn't be more obvious contrast, unless he had gone with white . it's pretty damn obvious. for $0.02, can I buy your Carrera?

You're 100% correct on the stickers! They suck! That's like hick ****. err, gross! it's like putting a light up tail pipe on your car or putting sticker race stripes down your hood, because someone told you it gave you 5 more Horse Power!! Just plain stupid!

The funny thing is that I have gotten tons of e-mails over the years from people asking me how I had custom aluminum trim made up and how sweet it looks.

I have siad it before. the reason for the vinyl is because if you want to go back tot he wood you can fairly easily. peel and clean the residue.

Some people were probably just annoyed that they spent hundreds painting the stuff, when they could have spent a few dollars for the vinyl, which has held up for me for over 5 years no problem. LOL

Painting is all good, but for some of us, the vinyl gets the job done, at a cheap price and is reversible. unlike painting, which is not easily reversible.

I do have a new project up my sleeve on mine coming sooner or later, still workign out the bugs and process, but will definately be different.
