NEWBIE..Just Got a e320 for my...

hey i got my dads all black e320 for my graduation. its a 1999. its more temporary but after looking at some mods i'm deciding to keep it! i want to do two immediate upgrades.

1. Projector lights
2. Rims

I hear that you have to change your suspension in order to add rims (if i can get away with adding 17"s w/o changing it i'll b happy)? and does anybody rec. some good projectors?

thanks in advance,

omair

You should be fine with 17"s and no suspension drop. The OEM sport package is 235/45/17 with no suspension changes. The overall diameter at that size is almost exactly the same (w/in 0.1%) as the 215/55/16s.

OEM projectors are good but expensive. Also i think you will only have suspension problems if you get wheels that are very big 19"+ which may rub, or if you buy wheels with a bad offset, which will stress the suspension. My dad's 2000 E430 has 17" wheels on it and it looks great and works fine.

Coupla quick notes on the wheels...

Two things to watch out for. First is the offset on the replacements, keep it close to stock or you'll need spacers.

The other is that if you're looking at genuine MBZ wheels, be sure you get ones from the older models. The newer wheels (starting '03 on the E) have a different design in the ball seat and you'd need custom lug bolts (about $15 each bolt) to mount them properly. :(

That said, CONGRATULATIONS!! Enjoy the ride,:zoom:

17" AMG OEM Sport Package wheels and tires for sale

I just changes out mine - these will bolt right on.

I am in So Cal - where are you?

I am pretty sure your offset is 38mm. I went from stock 16" to staggered 18" wheels and could not be happier with the improved look. I still have quite a bit of room between my tires and fender-wells with the stock suspension set-up on my 97 E420. Good luck.

Here is a photo of the rear 18x8.5 wheels with 265/35/18 tires. The wheels are monoblock VI replicas (fake BRABUS). There is still a lot of room and no danger of "bottoming out". I have seen a lot of people on this forum go much lower. Looks sweet, but I am not sure if I could get away with it (family guy with this as my daily driver).

First: please don't mind my bad english, it's not my native language...
I've got 2000. E240 - W210 (europe) with ugly wheels... so I bought genuine MBZ wheels of 2003. E class W211 (also E240 europe)... and I do have the problem with lug bolts!!! Where can I find custom lug bolts that would solve the problem - fit?
Thanks in advance!

Congrats ...

I have a 97 E320 that I put AMG 17" 5 spoke staggered on 235/45 front and 255/40 back. Work like a champ and no mods. Used stock lugs too.

As for projectors I've been considering them too. The forum appears to have many opinions on them, good and bad. I have seen less and less of them up on Ebay, so I don't know if there've been problems or just slow sales. Anyone else have an opinion?

Congrats again ... My E320 is the best car I've ever owned, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

14x1.5? Our cars don't use 14mm bolts, we use 12mm ones.

?

There're stuffs that cost only $40-50, but can really make your car standout & enhance the look substantially. Namely: illuminated door sill ($50), chrome cluster ring: $40.

For my car, the first thing I did was the new style taillight (2000-later).

You might want to look for the 17" wheels found on the limited edition (post 2000 W210), they look really nice with the W210 body. I got mine from a member of this forum when he upgraded to 19"

I guess the measure isn't referring to the diameter of the bolt, then again, there is a lot of mis-information on the internet. However, the length of bolt also depends on the design of the wheel and offset so it's dangerous to just assume one standard length bolt will fit all wheels. 12mm is the correct diameter for the W210.

Hope this help

I just mounted 2003 E500 rims on my 97 E320 yesterday with special bolts. They were 17 by 8 rims with 245/45/17 tires. Mounted just fine, no problems. No rubbing, but I will put 235/40/17 front tires for better clearance.

My problem was w211 rims on w210 car. my 97 E320 uses 12mm x 1.5 threads, while the w211 rims take 14mm x 1.5 threads. Therefore special bolts needed to mount. They are 14mm ball seat with 12mm threads. However, they are $8 each.. costly, but very happy with the rims.

Anyway, I'm a new member too. I don't know if I can post the business contact on here, but you can email me if you are a member. That was how I done it previously to track down these bolts. I'm just a user, so don't email for other info.
