Altezza Tail Lights 96-99
I keep seeing these aftermarket tail lights on ebay for around $150. They are a replacement for the W210 96-99 models. They are very similar to 2000+ tail lights but appear to be smoked.
Has anyone ordered and installed these? If so, did they fit and work? Are you happy with them?

Hello, Per the eBay lights, I bought some similiar lights about 3 years ago. Then the price was much higher.
The lights are not Altezza style, it doesn't bother me what you call them, but other members may be more sensitive.
Because the smoked/red combo is OEM on an E55.
Back to the hardware, the lights I got were not OEM E55 lights, they are offshore copies, fit and external finish are fine. Mine did not come with twist in bulb holders, but the stock ones fit just fine. But when first installed, I had electrical contact problems between the bulb holders and light assembly. This is very common with the import copies and even some stock assemblies.
The eBay listing here indicates fitment from '96-02.

You may want to confirm this fact, as it is probably incorrect. The pre-face lift W210's taillight design from the back of the assembly is slightly smaller than the face-lift models (2000 and up). Search this forum and you will find very nice instructions to cut/grind the extra plastic to make face-lift lights fit.
After three years, the exterior lens plastic has not faded or dulled.
