Rolled window down, and can't get it up!

Left rear passenger window. Friend rolled it down, and now it won't come back up. I pulled it up, but comes up 2/3rd and that's it, then just falls back down. I hear power..but what could it be? The motor or the regulator?
I tried removing the door panel, got all the borders unsnapped, but the middle part just won't come out..is there something I need to remove first?
Thanks

sounds like the regulator

mine too...

This happend to me last week also, it's the regulator. I have a 2000 model. Right rear broke last year around Thanksgiving, and left rear just broke. you will need to order a regulator and 4 rivits, you will gonna have to drill these out since regulator holds by the rivits. Make sure you go to dealer ask for few door panel clips, becuase they break off so easy. If your regulator do broke after few up and downs it should drop in to the door channels already. I don't know if your rear window is tinted or not, try to pull it up and wedge something in the channel to avoid scratch. But be careful, some one sometimes when the whole windows falls down will shutter the glass... hope this helps.

Between my car and friend cars (or friend of friend of friend ..., all w/ W210), I've changed the rear regulator almost 10 times !!!.

The first time it happens to me, I freak out, spent day and night to study the job, bite the bullet, and took couple hours to have it done (manage to scratch the rear window tint badly too !!!). Now ? 10 minutes :)

I bought a whole bag of door clip, since most of the door panel clip just broke off when I take out the door panel.

thanks all for the info (and the video :y ).

give the dealer a call.

wtf?
brought it to the dealer and they said on my 97 E420, I need to replace both the motor and the regulator..but on the newer models, you can just replace the regulator? I really don't want to spend the extra money for a motor since mine still works?
HELP!

Window Regulators and Paintless Dent Removal Caution

Between my neighbor who has a 2000 and I, a 2001 owner we have replaced 3 regulators. The last one on my E320 was broken by a paintless dent removal service. These are the people that massage parking lot dings out without removing the door panels or damaging the existing paint.

Just a word of advice to any of you considering using one of these services, Don't! As fragile as the regulators seem to be I wouldn't chance having a regulator broken again just to have a dent removed.

Luckily the body shop that was repairing the unrelated damage caused by a nice lady who rearended me fixed the regulator and ate the cost of the dent removal since it was their subcontractor.

i had just filmed that the day before.... :) nah, it's from the edsoto ISO disk.
i had taken all the video footage and trying to index them on my hard drive
for easy access. over on one of the other boards, they have good
text, still shots. it's here somewhere.... ah, got it

whenever i come across MB FAQ type repairs, I save or PDF them since
valuable info have been known to disappear, sites close, etc. so PDFing
them is the best method of archiving them.

Just read cautionary article in local paper about these fast moving
businesses.
