Why Do a Wheel Alignment?
I had bought four new tires with a wheel alignment last October. In February, two months later, I had the car inspected at the dealer. During the inspection they replaced the lower ball joints but didn't give the car a wheel alignment. The tires were fine at the time of the inspection (they had to be good to pass the inspection). Their reason was the same as yours - not needed. Another two months went by, and I went under the car to replace a broken foglight lens. Both front tires were ruined due to inside wear. In fact, the steel belt protruded from one tire. The tires had 2,000 miles on them. Between the dealer and the tire shop I received two new front tires, with a wheel alignment!
Moral of the story: have a wheel alignment done after replacing the ball joints.
PS - they're Pirelli P Zero Neros. They're great - quiet, handle excellent, and are all season tires.
