Need advice before I become an idiot again...

This time I better ask first.

I have stock CD-changer/Bose system on my E420.
I havent' change my CD for more than 6 months...lazy to open the trunk.... (yts, same old songs)

I was thinking if I can buy a in-dash mp3/wma player and patch into the wire of stock radio. (still keep my OEM)

Will it screw up the security system?
The purpose is just to play mp3 (I am not exactly sound maniac, I don't need to able to differentiate between "show me the love" vs "chop me the crap" )

If it will be okay, anyone got full schematic on wiring?

thanks~

What's wrong with keeping the same CDs in there? I have the same CDs in the car since I acquired it some 16 months ago.

I know this doesn't answer your question. And unfortunately, I'm unable to provide you with one. But I do wish you the best of luck! Good luck!

If you want MP3, Blaupunkt is a good way to go cause it plugs right into the factory harness. No it won't screw witht he security system of the car.

Edit:

I just check your signature, I notice you have MP35.
Is it simple as plug and play and work w/ my old CD changer?

If so, I definitely going to get one.. ( the price of this unit has drop at Crutchfield ~ $129.99 shipped - evidently that what I can afford only)

THANKS~

Consider replacing your stock CD changer with the MP3/WMA-capable Alpine CHA-S634 changer.

For up to '98, it would require (1) a MBZ->Alpine M-Bus adapter and (2) an Alpine M-Bus -> Alpine AiNet adapter.

'99 switched to fiber optic CD changer connection, so it won't work.

'00+ has both fiber optic CD changer and fiber optic connection to the Bose amp -- especially difficult to use aftermarket stuff.

How dare you jack my tread!
haha....I did the extensive research and talk to pro-shop

Here is the dilema: (learn from pro-installer)

1. NO AFTER MARKET DASH UNIT will work w/ your Stock CD changer! (if you already have CD changer like me, then it wouldn't work)

2. BLAUPUNKT Monterrey MP35, indeed able to plug and play. However, it does NOT play WMA format. (HOWEVER, it is pretty much only head unite able to give you orange-style-color display like your stock radio)

3. Patching another in-dash unit (what I originally intended) will risk destory the Factory AMP, if accidently have both unit on.

Alternative: (if really want mp3-capable, such 200+song per CD)

1. remove head united, remove CD-changer. (ebay them) And install After-market head unit.
- this method most likely will not cost you anything after.

2. remove stock CD-changer, and install after market mp3-capable CD-changer.
- this is more expensive route, but keep your factory looks.

3. installed wire-FM-modulator, and patch the audio in cable to your glove compartment. (if you already have ipod, this might be the cheapest way to go)
