E-430
Mine works all summer then when it gets cold it doesn't work or works sometimes. I have a 2000 E430. Ordered a new regulator (new version). Put it in today and it didn't work. Unplugged it plugged it back in and it worked. Then the climate control wouldn't turn it down from full blast. Kept doing this for a while. I would work with the controls sometimes then it wouldn't. I gave up and came in and read this forum for a while. Thought it might be the Climate control unit itself. I was one click away from buying one and I figured I should pull the old one first. Then i figured I might as well put the old regulator back in with the blower motor seeing as that probably wasn't it. So I did and now I get nothing at all. So I go to touch the red wire where it goes into the motor itself and it comes on. So I try the CC controls and everything is working normal. I figured I found the loose wire maybe I can solder it etc. So I try bending the two wires where they go into the motor every which way in order to make it stutter or stop but nothing. It just work all the time now. I figure I found a loose wire. It's been working perfectly since. I may also have brushes that are going. If it stops again I'll replace the motor. So if you have erratic operation it could be the motor not the climate control unit. Basically this was a very long way of saying I found a loose wire on the motor and I couldn't be happier.

I replaced the regulator in my CLK320 and it did not fix the problem so I replaced the fan/motor assembly. Still not working right. A MB mechanic told me there are a lot of problems with cheap replacement regulators. I bought a Behr regulator (from autohausAZ) and now it blows my toupee off.

Do you remember what brand regulator it was that did not work properly?

Dave, it was a Metrix brand regulator from discountmbparts.com that I bought for $63 that never did work. I paid $95 for the Behr unit that works great.

Rookie needs help

New to the forum. Here is where I am...
1996 E300D, 175K
AC blower stopped. Found this thread and ordered the W124 regulator from deutschepartsusa

Plugged and played without cutting and splicing to be sure regulator would solve the problem.

Turned on climate control.... JOY TO THE WORLD !!!! the blower works.
Everything is working fine and I am feeling very proud.

Went for a ride and fan stopped. After a mild stroke, I parked it for the night to let my BP settle.

Next morning, climate control works... for a while... then it stops again.

Stroke a little stronger this time.

Fast forward through a couple of more cycles of this... and here I am.

I have 12v to the red and blue wires to the motor with fan control on max.

Took the fan and hot wired it to 12 volt battery. She runs. Plug everything back up and BINGO... no voltage to motor. Unhook motor and I show 12v on the red and blue again.

Help?

Sounds like either the new regulator is defective, or your control unit is not sending a signal to the regulator. You'll need to check for control voltage at the input to the regulator to help determine which is the problem. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the exact voltages to look for on the W210 chassis, maybe someone else knows the typical control voltage at min and max blower speeds...?

Did you find the problem? I have the same issue but I have tried 2 additional new regulators and blower motors and they still don't work. Must be something else! Any help would be appreciated!

Regulator replaced

Had the problem about 2 years ago on a 96 E320. Got the S140 regulator for about $37.00 at WWW.thepartsbin.com

Used wire splices and all works well still.

If you look around you should be able to find one that doesn't require splicing. Bought mine on ebay for $59 and it already had the wiring in place and was a simple drop-in replacement. Took about 5 minutes to replace once I had the blower out, total job was less than 30 minutes.

Brilliant! I'm slow (hampered by seat that won't adjust back - and it only took about two hours to complete this project - cost for the part was 25 on eBay. I couldn't wait on a USA part as I go on vacation in two days - driving! Anyway, again, Brilliant!

If anyone is interested... I bought a regulator for my W140 and it came with 2 adapters - Don't need the one for the W210. $35 shipped CONUS? Otherwise its going into the trash.

This one for the W140:

have a 98 E320 that the blower fan has quit - is there a part that we can order that does not require the splicing of the wires? Know that we have an early W210, and that we need the W140 from the S class.

Made in China? Stick with Bosch

Might work for a little while but you would be better off installing the Bosch part. Kind of nasty if you have 100 degree weather and it quits, how much is that worth?

The new one is about 1/2 the size but bolted up and plugged in with no trouble, the old one is like the one above that sammyf showed pix of

Hey all,

My 2002 A/C was blowing very weak so I ordered the blower regulator Had that replaced and it worked for a bit. After a month or so, I turn on the A/C again. Nothing come out at all! I checked the fuse and they look good. Do you think it's because the new regulator is not compatible with the blower motor or the motor is just bad? Anyway to check this? Thanks in advance!

Check current on the fan. Also, it is good idea to ground the fan.

Great instructions

I just changed the blower motor and regulator using this thread. What a help! I also change all the cabin filters. I found that Importec had the parts cheaper than anyplace else when getting a non-oem blower motor. The part works great and we saved over $800 from what the dealer wanted to charge to replace everything.

Maybe the overheating problem? Sounds like the regulator is overheating due to either clogged cabin filters or improper installation. It is important to clean up the metal and remove all the gunk prior to bolting the regulator. Sometimes people use too much thermal paste which prevents good metal to metal heat exchange, and the the regulator overheats after some use, or with the reduced air flow through the blower metal frame. It is likely that a thermal protector opens up the signal line from the climate control (almost zero volts to the output transistor base) and this switches off the regulator. After the unit cools down the thermal protector resets to conduction. and the unit works again. Advice would be change your cabin filters when you change the regulator, and use the thermal paste sparingly (just to fill in the microscopic surface "potholes" on both surfaces (frame, and the heatsink base of the regulator. Also the regulator bolts must be properly tightened to ensure good surface to surface heat transfer.
