Where to look for chassis number

Where do I look for chassis number from my car because when I tried to order brake pads online they asked for chassis number. I have 2001 E430 (W210) and I'm not sure what number they're looking for. Please help

It's your VIN number on your windshield. Probably just last 6 digits needed.

Sorry, but that's not what's needed when ordering parts.

VIN number is needed and that's what's called chassis number.

This is because running changes are made during production.

Your number is model identifier.

It's in numerous places; drivers' door frame/sill, drivers' side dash, vehicle registration, title, owners manual radio code card, etc.

The VIN, chassis number, and the model are all different numbers. I supplied him with what he asked for, the chassis number for a 2001 E430. Or rather, the first five digits of his chassis number. A complete chassis number is 14 digits long, but I’d have to know his VIN to supply him with the remaining digits.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
Although a VIN and a complete Mercedes-Benz chassis number share the last 7 digits, a VIN is not a chassis number. This is obvious because a modern Mercedes-Benz VIN is longer than the chassis number. Here in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region>, VINs were standardized at 17 digits back in 1981. Even if one were to add the manufacturer's code as a prefix, the VIN would be different from the chassis number.
<o:p></o:p>

I did not supply him with the model number. The model number is W210. A W210 can be an E200, E200 CDI, E200 CDI Turbo, E230, E240, E250, E250 TD, E270 CDI, E280, E290 TD, E300, E300 TD, E320 CDI, E320, E430, or an E55. The chassis number for each of these models is different.

Lastly, the correct brake parts for his car can be looked up with the MB parts CD by entering either the numbers that I gave him or the complete VIN.
