Advice needed. Tires. Suspension work.

Alright so i need some advice before i begin my next mod. I have a 430 with e55 amg monoblock take off's. I am due for new tires by next month or so. Currently i am running 245/40/18 in the front and 275/35/18 in the rear(stock for those wheels). Every time i am going at least 40 mph or faster and there is a huge dip in the road that will compress the suspension one of the front tires will hit the fender. My question is would going to 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 fix that problem or no? The next mod that i want to do shortly after i change the tires i want to install bilstein sport shocks and h&r springs. Of course that is going to drop the car. So i guess my main question is will 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 clear the car or no still to close. Also i noticed that my rear tires have negative camber to them. Is it a must to install a camber kit? Any adivce is greatly appreciated thank you.

Amg

e.t.'s on the rims?
going to a 235 and a roll of the fenders when you drop it should work out.
camber bolts for the front and you need the kmac or speedybenz kit on the rear,or you will never get close to the -1/2 degree that seems to be the best compromise.
you notice neg camber on the rears now ,wait till to see -4 after a drop and pads.

So your saying i should go with 235/40/18 in front and 265/35/18 in rear?
Also i believe the e.t offset in the front is ET31 and the offset in the back is ET35. Can you link me direct me to where i can get ahold of the kmac or speedybenz kit from?

Whole big

write up on big rims, alignment etc. i did on benzworld.org w210 diy or tips section of w210.
kmac and speedy benz you can google or search some recent posts on the forum for camber links.
Doing it right costs money and time ,but not as much as replacing tires every ten thousand miles at $250 a pop

Yes, those sizes may be the best setup for non AMG cars.

hello, my 99 e320 started showing signs of uneven tire wear at around
60-65K...cupping on the outer edges of tires. How long does the original shocks typically lasts for these cars?

with normal driving 90-100k. When mine started to really give up, I got excessive nose dive on braking. Lots of options around for replacement of shocks and springs that will preserve a luxury ride about town, but take body roll and nose dive out of the car when driving harder.

other than the uneven wear on the tires...and a little road nosier at certain speeds... car seems to handle normally. I had a shop checked for alignment and it was ok...so I don't know when I should spend the money to replace them. The car is well taken of..so that is why I am surprised the shocks are going bad so soon.

I Have the AMG E55 18 Inch Mono blocks with 245/275/18 on my W210 Wagon WITH H/R Sport Springs fitted with # 1 spring pads also Installed the front 4 REPAIR bolts and The Rear adjustable camber arms and get decent tire wear 12/15K on the tires ....And the Wagon is LOW! NO RUB!

I Use a shop that sets up track cars for wheel alignments ..That does alignments the old school way...He also does corner balance work as well

Its all about the tech that does the Alignment...Not just if the readings are in the Green ...But Right on ...

I had the Stock Rear Sl for five years (WARRANTY) after that the rear SL Shocks were replaced with Bilstein sport shocks...oh and a different Power Steering Pump WITHOUT the fittings for the rear Self Level Shocks
Springs are the Same H/R Sport Springs... Also Added the AMG E55 Estate Sway Bars
The Handling improved a LOT! No More Boat Ride... But Still a Decent ride on the freeway

thanks ohlord for the good question...the previous set of tires had the same cupping problem towards the end of it's life. I now have BF Goodrich with decent tiretread wear numbers that I bought from Costco. It did not take long before the cupping to show up on the outer edges of the tires on the second set of tires. That means it is not the brand or the tread pattern of the tire that is causing this. It seams to be only on the outer edges...other than that I feel like I still get decent miles from the tires.

ohlord..next subject

I also have 99 E320 with the sunroof switch problem..pushing opposite directions on the button to have it perform the functions you wanted it to do. Also, tried to reset procedure and it will do it once or twice properly then it goes bad again. Wonder what really causes this in the first place...disconecting the baterry completely when replacing the battery? Had the dealer checked the switch but they don't seem to think it is the switch...honestly I don't think they are sure themselves. Anyone know how to fix this once and for all??
